today I got abuse as I was under me car looking at the gearbox selector seal at my mate Ben's, there were some kids about being annoying. I chucked them some fags and a lighter and told them to piss off.

The parents weren't overly impressed.

The most amusing thing is people say use coilovers, take the helper springs out and ruin the TUV bollocks and kinda invalidate them anyways.

i bought a mk2 scirocco a while back that looked and drove like it had a proper lowering kit on it, it weren't till i replaced it with some TA coilover that i found it just had chopped springs...

the new coilovers rode worse than the chopped spring's.

chopped springs are fine,

micky's mk4 polo has chopped rears, if you jack the back up you have to hold the springs in place as you lower it so they sit right.

That's the dangerous part.

ok, it can be done safely, like i said, taking off small amounts as apposed to a big cut then the spring becoming lose in the damper etc.

just the attitude of people not giving a fuck worrys me. dont know if I'm just picky, or a perfectionist or what, but some stuff i read on here is just dangerous.

chop your springs, do what you want, at the end of the day its only my opinion, if you crash cause of it il be the one laughin

I don’t mean this just about chopped springs , Some people on here are willing to take some Risks that increase the probability of something going wrong , not saying its just springs. I’ve seen a few topics. Although I personally don’t approve of chopped springs I don’t know much about them nor ever do it. So my opinion is just generalised.

I think I agreed with you in the other topic 'harris.racing' about people not declaring mods. That’s another thing , People are willing to mod but there also willing to run around uninsured.

So. If you were to hit a child crossing the road and the police took the car away , If they noticed you had chopped springs , Even if it had nothing to do with the event I’m sure the insurers wouldn’t like it. You could use the oh I brought it like that however I'm sure they will kick up a stink.

I’ve just declared my coilivers and they want a full engineers report before I can take it out on the road , which is fair enough as I done the work myself. I dread what they think if you tell them you’ve chopped some of the spring off on standard gear :/

I personaly would want the car to be safe and know things are done properly. I generaly dont think of them to be safe unless your only doing a little bit.
