So i'm an electrical apprentice and got called off a job today and everyone was there and told games a bogey our sister company went out the game yesterday and owed us towards £1m so took us out the game also.

But i'm a lucky B*****D when it comes to landing on my feet and i was apprentice of the year and had the west of scotland apprentice of year competition yesterday and because of that i'm walking straight into a new job on monday morning (thankfully or the gti would be bye bye)

But redundancey money isn't really adding up such as holiday pay/travel expenses etc..

Anyone been in that situation and got all there allowances and holdiay pay eventually??

thats good that you got a start straight away,I've been put on risk of redundancy at the start of the year but things have picked up a bit now,its still not as secure as id like it to be.

Think everyones at threat really but since your from glasgow you may know hunter clark? which was our sister company that went out game yesterday and they were sitting on multi million pound contracts but just were not getting paid, its ridiculous

no ones getting paid for any kind of work though - take it from a finance assistant!

I was made redundant 18months ago, worst day of my life, was wondering how i would be able to afford my rent/bills... would we lose our flat etc etc...

lucky for me there was a vacancy in our accts department - walked into it 3 days later and never been happier!

Very lucky by the sounds of it chap.

I got made redundant from my last job as a goods clerk/night traffic controller. Got told on the friday and only ended up with a weeks wages (£160ish!) which left me right up shit creek.

Lucky for me though i had insurance on most of the loans/payments i made every month so just kicked them into gear before it got silly.

The job i do now is a step backwards but its better money and short days so i cant really complain. I just have to suffer whatever the english weather can throw at me.

Think i've probably became better off being made redundant as the potential to make a shit load more money easier without doing the hours, a lot of smart hard work using my head rather than running in enclosures and cables and connecting up boards which if there are any electricians on here a trained monkey could do a lot of it. so i'm going to be like a first year apprentice with my tale between legs trying to play catch up.

I work for a big meter operator company and there is risk of me losing my job some time soon. quite worrying when you realise you have all these bills to pay.

We got told that 15% of the workforce might lose their jobs from a guy who earns £105k a year! More like he should take a paycut the greedy bastard.
