Knocking price down on admiral insurance

Featured Replies

Decided to edit my quote a bit that i had saved on admiral.

was originally over 1500 3pft on my valver for my second year driving with lowering and alloys declared (was named driver last year)

- was under 1000 miles per year, moved it up to 5000 and no price change.

- realised my dad got some points 5 years ago so added them onto his named driver bit. went down 50 quid

- added exterior and interior mods. no price change

- was being parked in a garage. changed to driveway - went down 50. changed to street - went down another 50!

- changed the value of my car to 999 instead of 800 - no change (1000 tipped it up a bit tho ha)

- changed to comprehensive with highest excess - went down 20 quid

now being quoted £1332.65 :) with free windscreen and stereo cover ;)

do they literally just make it up or am i just lucky?!

moral of the story, have a little play with the quote!

1298 if i wait a week so I've been driving 1 year and 1 month rather than 1 year haha

i think they just pluck a number out of the air tbh.

a few years ago, i had a renewal through. Phoned the same company up and asked for a quote, and they beat their own price by a fair amount

Their line is it goes to a different underwriter. Me, I think they just pull a number out of the air.

be careful if you do quotes with mods declared and undeclared with admiral.

I did a quote with and without DRL's declared. i paid for the undeclared one and then about a week later i gt a letter that said that i'd not told them about modifications to my car and they were going to charge me the £50 extra to have them declared.

serious? the only thing i tried and am not going to go for is performance air filters, but all the other mods i tried i am actually going to declare.

Yep, i'm serious.

one of their Indian call centre staff will get you to declare IN WRITING that your car doesn't have ____________ modification and you agree that if it has, any claim will be void

I'm with Elephnat (same company as Admiral) and they do seem to just pluck prices out of mid air for me.

In the last two years the renewals I've been sent through are originally £100 dearer than the previous years price.

I call up and they knock almost £200 off right away (why couldnt they do that before?)

Last year I tried to add my Mum on the policy (my dad is on it and that took it down) but she put it up :S

So then I added a close female friend and that took it down

Then finally I told them about a cheaper quote elsewhere and they knocked even more off.

to be honest though all the companies can charge what they like for insurance, you have to have it to drive legally and as far as I'm aware there is no upper or lower limit on what they can charge anyone.

i might just start the quote again so i get a different quote reference then only click on the mods I've got. but tbh I'm declaring all the mods I've got anyway so dont mind signing anything as i can always ring them up at a later stage if i want to do anything else.

I'm with admiral and i took out a policy a few days ago. 508 pounds for 10 motnhs bonus accelerator with 1000 pounds excess. would of been 580 pounds for 12 months. i made a mistake though so rang them up and cancelled it. they refunded my money and they asked do i want to set up the policy again now. i said hmmmm ok go on then (usualy dont like talkingt to them for too long on phone). she came back with an offer of 530 pounds for 12 months with just 350 pounds excess.

its silly because i rang them up when i purchased the 10 months, and i asked can i get it a little cheaper since I'm already with admiral. he said no thats the final price. haha.

If you have a mum who has been driving for a long time with no points on her license and no accidents in last 5 years. put her on it. that brings it down a massive amount. brought mine down 100 quid almost. i put my girlfriend on it too that brought it down another 20 quid. i put my dad on no difference, but he had poiutns so when they check this itl prob go up which is why i didnt put him on.

i put my car value from 1500 to 2500 no difference.

I'd be careful, just wiping it from your online screen probably won't wipe it from their servers.

I did about 10 quotes with all sorts of different insurance companies, and when I rang them up for a quote, gave them my name and address they said 'ah i see you've done a few quotes already!'

So my guess is they keep them just to cross reference the prices they quote.

iv done like 20 quotes with elephant, and rang them up, usually they refer to the last quote you did, i then basically go over every single detail, making sure its correct. then when my documents came through i checked everything out and rang up to check about a few things! i wonder how much it will add to my policy fitting an exhaust system?!

i dont think its too serious if you od that. i had hundreds of quotes. when i spoke to admiral they asked me to confirm this and taht etc. so i did. she gave me a quotew. i asked, try it in a locked garage. now add the exess up. now lower the value of my car. she just did and let me know if it was cheaper. whenever it was cheaper i said ok good leave it at that. lol

i did exactly the same and still got the letter about a fortnight later saying that i was "policy massaging" and not declared some mods, even tho i did the quote with no mods and told them there were no mods.

I'd be careful with admiral :? I'm on a multicar policy, and got a quote for a mk2 golf gti 8v for £876 online, which i thought was great. I went and bought the car, rang up today and they said "ok, that's £1123 please". I asked why it was so much more than online, and she said it always quotes less online :? What a cock :x ha

I've got a good quote (£700 TPFT) rang the company to buy it and then he said he had to do the quote again as the internet was only an estimate and then he came back with £1400 TPFT i told him where to stick it.

I got a quote with them for my Golf, said I'd been driving 2 years, when I changed it to 1 year 10 months, it went up by £500.

Put my mum on as a named driver... it went down £500 again :-D

the quote admiral gave me was £1990 TPFT... i phoned up and asked to pay monthly. This has some how ended up at £2700 in total. They have said this is how it goes if you dont pay it all in one... £700 extra?

i must be the only one but every quote i do online is they quote they poffer me on phone. heck, admiral you can just order online and dont even have to talk to them on phone.

I had a quote from them which was £800, asked them about paying monthly and was told it would be £135 a month with a total premium of about £1300 i think :?
