Hey All,

Gonna have to start takin the nipper to nursery soon and dont particularly fancy breaking my back every time I have to get him in and out of the back of the car in his car seat.

I've heard there is something you can do by disconnecting the terminal to the passenger airbag, but to make sure that the drivers airbag remains active, you have to fit some kind of resistor to the connectors

Anybody got any more info on this ??

I've never done it before mate but, if you are going to do it make sure to disconnect your battery before anything so the airbag ECU doesn't detect that you've disconnected the airbag(and to make sure you don't accidentally set of the airbag in your face).

You can get the resistors of eBay:

It's quite expensive for what it is, if i was you i'd find out what value resistor it is and i'd go down to Maplins and just get a resistor of that value. It shouldn't be more than 50p.

ah yes excellent, that would have been my next step after seeing the component number, go into airbags, adaption, channel 1, then write a 1 into that channel

fyi the other channel numbers relate to the other airbags (if fitted)

1 - front passenger

2 - front steering wheel

3 - passenger side airbag

4 - driver side airbag

5 - passenger belt tensioner

6 - driver belt tensioner

7 - passenger side head airbag

8 - driver side head airbag

disabling the passenger airbag should make this fault code appear in the airbag module, 01280 - Airbag: Passenger Side: Disabled, on some airbag ecu versions this will also bring on the airbag warning lamp on the dashboard which you need a login code to clear

It was quite good as it had a pre-entered adaptation code which just needed changing to disabled.

When I started her this morning, the airbag light on the dash flashed a few times (which I presume was related) then just went off.

Pust been told by somebody else that disabling via VAG-COM isn't enough, you apparently have to disconnect it too ???

no, if it's disconnected it will show an open circuit fault constantly which will light up the warning lamp permanently regardless of whether it's been disabled or not...

when i say you need a login code, what i mean is that whenever there is any fault code stored in the airbag module it brings on the warning lamp, disabling a airbag nearly always returns the a fault code like i mentioned above and the login code instructs the airbag ecu to 'ignore' that fault code which switches the warning lamp off.... like i said before it depends on which version of the airbag module you have fitted..

the flashing on startup is just telling you that it has a non-critical fault stored in memory..

there is one thing you need to remember about the airbag ecu too, you can only switch on or off any of the airbags upto a maximum of 50 times collectively before you get completely locked out.. at which point all you can do is have all of them active (by resetting channel 0 in the basic settings)
