what?!?! g40s came with 13" wheels so of course they fit. (caveat: you haven't told us what wheels so there is a possibility that they wont. ATS Classics are an example because of the shape of the inside of the wheel but all they need is either some spacers or use non-g40 carriers on the calipers).

I stand corrected.....i do apologise its just a mate of mine supposedly has g40 brake setup on his mk3 coupe and there is no way that hed get 13's over them....musnt have a g40 brake setup lol

Sorry mate for the duff info

they dont take some wheels but only due to the ET/wheels design on the wheels causing the shroud found on the VW11 cailpers on the front to catch the inside of the of the wheel...

solutions;

- cut off the shroud

- swap for vw1 calipers

- use spacers 10mm will probably do the trick with most wheels (ally cats etc)

Its for a mk2 loon and was thinking classics, haven't done the brake conversion yet though.loll

So i wasnt completely wrong then.... :paranoid:

Well, considering you can fit some 12s over G40 brakes, yes, yes you were

Thanks for that A* answer. (And sorry I'm slow on the blackberry)lol

Ye but how fecking low is the et on those......cause I've seen the gap between my mtaes g40 setup and the 14's hes go on there and its close....theres no way you could close it by an inch!!!

^ half an inch D:

Dunno. There's plenty of VWs with vented 239mm brakes and 13" wheels though. G40s, Mk3 Golfs, Mk4 Polos, B3 Passats, etc. Admittedly they can look very close, but they are only tiny calipers and it's the dust shield you've got to worry about more than anything else. What wheels has he got?

no dude it would be an inch going from 14's to 12's

Think hes got golf gti steelies, look abit like g60's....he bought it off here so you might have seen it. Like a silver paintwork with metal flake and the wheels were painted copper with metal flake.

herp my bad

on the plus side, today i learnt I can get VW11's from 6n polos.

Ah yes those 14" steels. Well, you'll be pleased to know you can fit 256mm brakes under them!

Maybe its just the way they look through the wheel then.....he recons he wont fit 13's over them. But i know you can fit 256s under them as they fit on my car :p

i've had G40 brakes on both of my polo's, both of which had 13's on with no problems

Wha?

News to me

monkey-man, please dont post on threads if you dont know a definitive answer, or if you dont know, say I'm not sure!!!!

theres a massive disclaimer in the tech section, for the reason that incorrect advise about technical things, could lead to someone doing something on thier car wrongly causing harm to their car, them or third parties

so think first, post second, goes to all really! if your not 100% just say so!

and vw2s came on a plethora of cars, its only mk1 golfs and mk1-3 polos (and mk1 jettas and a few others) that had the smaller carrier hub spacing, all newer golfs polos etc had the larger 96mm hub spacing.

but the VW2 calipers found in the VW range, on any VW car, will fit the corresponding, smaller or larger hub spacing carriers.

go do some etka research and then get down to the scrappys. they dont charge "g40" scene tax prices.

lastly, as hayesey has probably said - g40s came with 13s as standard

thank you and good night

to add some extra cars that came with VW2's

Mk1 Golf GTI's and I believe GLI's - Bear in mind its only series 2 gtis (and v late series 1s late 79/80) that came with vw2s, the earlier were the scary girlings found on early mk2 and mk1 polos)

Scirocco - various models

Mk2 Golfs - Not sure which models, and you can only use the caliper, not the carrier (different spacing and integrated into hub iirc) you cannot use 16v's though as they have 256mms and the carrier spacing is wrong (you'd need rare carriers, part numbers in the faq section) or vauxhall caliper conversion (easy to do and also covered in faq section)

and the pigeon is all kinds of correct here, there are the only times 13s wont fit, and its wheel specific dependant on the offset, any internal webbing and design of the wheels.

he forgot to say, you can be pikey and chop down the vw2 carriers, or grind a bit off your vw2 calipers, there is plenty of meat there

but if your uncertain, DONT do it. its really risky messing with brakes.

Also pigeon mean to say swap for VW1 "Carriers" not Calipers. he was pecking on some bird seed at the time, so was a lil distracted

Not a mk2 but you get the jist. mk3, vw11's and 13x7 up front ats classics. They fit fine.

Whats wrong with the girlings on mk2's?

they are fucking shocking, and werent sufficient back in the 1980's, let alone 20 years later.

i had a brand new refurbished set, new discs/pads/hoses etc and it was still one of scariest experiences in my life.
