I got into work this morning and made a phone call about new arches...cause it's me and for my car they can do them me for £19.95+vat each.

Can't moan at that.

i love contacts in the trade...new arches a day after ordering and only setting me back less than £20 a piece.

and yes, they are my Steffans wrapped up under the plastic lol.

DAY 2

so day 2 came around for the Polo. the plans were to prep the doors of any parking dents and do the bonnet...needless to say things got a bit carried away as youll see below.

big thanks to Baz for spending the day helping me out.

so we started the morning off by taking the bonnet off and paint stripping due to stone chips [easiest way usually]

handles out and filled the doors cause of parking dents:

the paint stripper did nothing...so onto plan B.

decided to let Baz loose with an old polishing mop with 80 grit paper on:

handles had some odd lines in the plastic so they were taken right back:

back bumper done:

were the spoilers bolted to the boot with 10mm bolts, it had pulled the plastic leaving indentations...so they were filled [slightly anal i know]

front bumper done:

before you say...yes the bonnet was etch primered before 2k primer was added.

all built up and primered and yes...i am still rocking the car in that state lol.

not bad for a days work.

only got the arches, sills and secret thing to do before its onto the paint :)

cause I'm doing it at my work, i have the joys of having a fully stocked workshop to use.

all the materials and tools are there to make it easy.

ye man, its only a 30min drive from me.

might see if theyll take this inside this year.

Actually think this will be awesome when you get it finished =D all this needed was that rust removing and the odd scratch taking out and it would be mint and now your doing it =D

i need some new arches aswell sick of one of m rears after a bodge arch rol :9 not good!

i have tools on hand at college doing paint and body in my last year but they hardly let us use the stuff now!

while your painting yours you could always give mine a little blow over in white :p

thats if it is staying white........

Sean I did have Inpros fitted, but the bulb holders have come loose of the casing of one of them...so swapped back to standards...I may just use them as show lights.

It had the odd mark here and there all over, so it made sense to do the lot in one.

Ye it will be going back to white and the ovens not big enough for 2 repaints at a time haha.

i think all bodyshops look the same in some aspects...

mainly a thick layer off filler dust on things and plenty of cobwebs lol.

Not yet, got another set back so I may not get both arches on tomorrow...ahh well, haven't done to bad so far for 2 days worth of work.

DAY 3

so yet again the car got sent up in the air and stripped down.

interior out.

what i had before.

and all sanded back.

your just a pussy if you dont do your own bodywork/full repaint haha.

i can do pretty much all aspects of body repair...but i cant weld or do metal work...so thats where my man Al comes into the equation.

chopping the new arch to size.

chopping the old arch off.

which revealed this...the previous owner had had new arches put over the originals WITHOUT sealing them...water trap much?

inner arch before.

inner arch all cleaned up.

cause the lip of the inner arch was crusty and broken away in places...i chopped the lip off of it meaning it will sit higher up inside and mean the outer arch is single skin.

with more cleaning up, we found more areas for attention...gromit hole slightly battered.

the plan was to bond the outer arch to the inner arch using panel bond and then weld afterwards.

this means it will be not only strong but completely water tight.

new arch bare metalled [you can only panel bond to clean, shiny metal]

all panel bonded on.

then time to weld.

we didnt have an arch roller, so we did it the old fashioned way...hammer and dolly.

now its rolled to within an inch of its life.

seriously neat welding.

grommit hole patched up.

this shows so the arches are rolled now...a million times better than what i had before [and have on the other side] anyone whose felt them before knows what a shit job the last owner had had done.

now onto more bad news...at 9 in the morning i took my locking wheel nut key out the glove box...by 4.30 when i wanted to put it back in, i couldnt.

it took me and my mate a fair while to break into my glove box because the lock mechanism had disintergrated.

all built back up and put into zinc primer.

also got a delivery of new parts.

firstly a mint all black uncut parcel shelf which i managed to pick up for £10.

still has the part number sticker that I've never seen before.

and because my aerial catches the spoiler, rather than chop the spoiler my mate recommended this aerial.

still yet to trial fit, but you find these aerials on the Mk5/6 Golfs and other new VW's.

Cheers man, he's a shit hot welder hence why I let him do it.

Polo Show? No.

It'll be done by Ultimate Dubs though.

There's really not alot left to do, so if all goes to plan and my times fit...it should be painted within 4 weeks.
