I've got no plans of an engine swap or smoothed bay.

I have toyed with the idea of a 6n2 dash swap though, but don't know how much work is involved or what expense.

Other than that, everything I've got planned atm will deffo be done.

made a phone call to a VW breakers in Essex I've used before [cant recommend them enough] at 11.30 yesterday morning...ordered the parts i wanted and they turned up at my work at 11 this morning.

new glove box lock [just need to swap the key barrells over]

new dash vents...mine only go side to side and up and down...these are the later ones which have 4 way movement.

also got myself some new rear arch shields as mine are fucked from where my tyres have been scrubbing on them and where the last owner butchered them.

these are mint and just need a quick clean:

DAY 4

all stripped down...again.

all sanded down ready for work.

decided at this point while other work was been done ill get onto prepping the other arch.

all the welding sanded back.

all feathered back.

the 1/4 dipped so in with the thick stuff.

flatted back.

in with the smooth stuff.

all skimmed up in one go.

this arch was worse than the passenger one...i expected that anyway.

all cleaned up ready to be treated and the new arch put on.

didnt take anymore pictures as it was all done pretty much the same as the other arch from last week.

all put into some primer.

i hated doing the filling/flatting on the rear arch lol so annoying getting the shape on the swage line where bump strips go lol

How much would it cost to get the arches on my 6N done at your garage Rob? I have the standard rusty arches :(

Doing work on my own car is no different to doing some of the full repaints I've done on cars such as a Triumph TR6, Mk2 Cortina Savage, Lotus Elan+2 etc.

No idea man, I only prep and paint I don't know how to quote jobs.

I've cut the inner arch which means the arch itself is now only single skin.

i tell a lie Ollie, i do have a mid week update......

over the last month or so my cars had issue starting, i got so annoyed with having to get the boost pack on the battery i thought sod it and bought a new one today.

this battery is seriously heavy and my bonnet only just shuts cause its alot bigger than what i did have.

640 amp wont have any problems with starting now lol :)

not had any issues so far lol.

i dont think it helps that my HID's and sub are running through it.

i have no idea what that means btw...just said i wanted a bigger battery than standard haha.

No going back now!!

DAY 5

right then, this is something i bought in 2010 and have only just got round to fitting.

theres only 2 other 6ns i know of [maybe more about] to have this.

off with the filler cap and central locking rod.

can anyone guess what it is yet?

most important thing to have on the job.

trimmed down to a suitable size.

my panel man Al then begins cutting.

1/4 panel cut.

sanded ready for sanding.

any unnecassary holes are welded up and sanded.

then it began to snow...glad i was in the warm.

then let the welding begin.

all done.

while trial fitting the new filler cap one of the bolts snapped...this suits me as i saw some very nice replacements i was going to buy anyway.

notice the temp. replacement screw haha.

and this is the replacement filler cap

with the work that took place, it actually took its toll on the inside of the arch :(

AND ITS ON FINALLY AFTER ALMOST 2YRS OF OWNING IT!!

this is where the release cable sticks out...i will be modifying it eventually so i have a release lever in the foot well, but this will do for now.

inside the arch all repaired.

new glove box lock mechanism fitted.

also found this dodgy looking pasty that had fallen down the back of my sub...i bought that thing when i went to the Classic Car Show at the NEC in November!!

such a stressful journey home.

and proof I'm still using it daily.

also since removing the central locking for the petrol flap I've had an issue...

i forgot to block the vacuum pipe up which means the central lockings not working properly and the boot will now not open.

guess I'm going to be cold tomorrow when i sort it :(

but other than that...how cool is that petrol flap haha.
