hi mate see your from norwich same well from aylsham, seen you said your car was cutting out and that mine was doing the same thing as soon as you drove for like more than 5 minutes and then dipped the clutch to stop without trying to keep your foot on the accelerator too "which was pretty scetchy haha" soo i got the chap in the garage to have a look when got my mot done a couple of weeks ago and he said it was the carb just full of crap soo cleaned it and for 1/2 an hours labour car runs fine now, duno if thats any help atall!

Hi mate, good to see another dubber round these parts :) Cheers for the advice, i think ill get my mechanic friend to take the carb off and clean it and check all the seals etc. Hopefully that will solve the problems :p

yeh deffinatly ill have to keep my eyes open when I'm driving about now haha, yeh I'm not certain it would be that but i would certainly getting it looked at first and have abit of a clean hopefully will save some money if it is just that anyway!

Likewise! I've only seen a few modified vw's around here but mostly barry boys and old ladies :p Is your mk2 loon black? I drove past one a few weeks back in norwich with no front bumper and gave the driver a wave haha

Small update..

Carbs been removed and checked. The problem seems to be the rubber mount which was ghetto repaired just to get it working. But now the glue has perished and the mounts leaking.

New one ordered which will hopefully fix the problem!

Replacement arrived :)

Hopefully this will get the car running..

Carb is also being refitted today so she'll be back on the road :-D

Edit:

Carb refitted however the car still misfired and cut out completely and refused to start after driving 10 meters..

Faulty HT lead to blame new set is on order though :)

i had replaced that rubber mount few months before you got it off me so would of thought been ok man , good to see new light in

Oh really? Hmm..must have worn when it was misfiring and stuff, probably was a sign I should stop driving it for a while :p

i need to check make sure all the parts are there the majority is but i need to check thoroughly through all the little fitting and condition but considering i did about 2.5-3k with it on it should be in tip top condition so i dont know what i'd want for it until i've checked it over so i'll give it a look over on thursday (next available opportunity to be free seeing as work and uni are eating the majority of my time)

oh and that rubber block under the carb is a pain in the back side i just ripped mine off when i took the carb off honestly went through so many i just glued them on after a while. misfiring could be down to the replacement rubber not fitting right or timing being out (mine was) spitting flames out?

Top Tip- never stick your face over the carb when cranking

sweeeet breadvan mate, identical color and trim to mine, looking at putting some ats wheels on like yours..they 6j? do they fit on the rear alright without scrubbing, or have you have your arches rolled/pulled? cheers

Thanks man, good to see theres more twist's about! Yeah 6 wide, had to pull the arches out abit but might get away without if you run some 145 tyres rather than 165s which I'm using

sorry about the delay in the reply gotta hella loads of uni work at the moment but it is missing the jointing hose thing the connects the two water pipes together (not required on the weber but is on the pooburg) and a few screws and so on but nothing that can be bought from fastroadcars on ebay.

i should have said its a 32/34 twin choke DMTL not a huge twin 40 but gives some power and lovely little roar

I'm after £100 which i hope doesn't sound too bad as 7 months ago i bought it for £270 but yeah its almost a direct fit fits on the same rubber block the only difference is a choke cable and rerouting the water pipes and disconnect the carb electrics ( i was surprised to see them!)

Nah 100 sounds fair, i'll have a think about it as my more mechanically minded friend is coming over soon to see if he can sort the pierburg out..
