Polo GT, 1991

Hi guys, up for grabs is my 1991 polo gt, mk 3.

This car has been my daily driver and has not let me down once since i bought in in April last year. It has been great fun and is still a nippy little car!

The car was a project when i bought it as it came with a shell, wheels (steels), a dash board, bucket seats and a steering wheel! literally that was it. someone previous to that had slammed in on a busted suspension and had taken all of the interior out. and i do mean all!! since then over the past year i had riased it slighly on a set oh philj 60-40 suspension kit (springs and shocks). i bought a very clean coupe and used all the interior from that and swapped it over to my car. so the polo now has a full interior with all the screws fitted and carpets. i also bought some g40 front and rear seats which i fitted and covered with seat covers (face face seat covers for the front and leather seat covers for the back). the door cars are also from a g40. the condition of the seats and door covers is not to bad. the main fault you may notice is that they are faded from the sun slightly.

with the new interior came a full working dashboard too! the only problem with this was i couldnt get the rear di-mister to work. the switch works and you get 12v at the rear window, so I'm guessing there is a break in the window lines somewere.

The red LED for 'low level break fluid' and 'hand brake application' flickers most if the time, but I can assure you that it does not leak any brake fluid and the hand brake works fine. i checked the switch at the brake fluid resovoir and there were no obvious signs of faults. i left it as it as as it was doing no damage or effecting the cars performance.

the milage today reads 138475 (2/7/2010), but this will rise slightly as the car is used everyday.

As you can see from the pictures the car is low, the exhaust scrapes if you hit the wrong speed bump. I haven't had people in the back to experience the car with a full load! But I'm sure all you guys who have low riders no what its like to have this type of car.

i serviced the car myself which included everything except the alternator and cam belts. I work for eurotunnel as a maintenance engineer, so i make sure when i service it, all the silly little things were done aswell and checked regularly, for example spraying off dirt from the battery terminals and making sure electrical connections are good etc.

the car did come with zero history when i bought it, so yes it was a gamble. But it has flown through 2 MOTS with no welding or major work being required whatsoever. It has 13inch wheels on it with 4 good legal tyes (175/50/13 yoko's).

The horn doesnt appear to work. When it went through the mot, it had a worn out horrible sparco steel wheel and the horn worked. I have changed it for an original Steering wheel but the horn is now not working. To be honest i just haven't attempted to check why it doesnt work as i have never had the reason to use it.

When you start the car, if it is left on tick over, it will back fire for about 5 mins until the car is revved and it begins to get warm. what this means i have no idea!! It maybe something to do with the fact the ecu is chipped..but this isnt my area of expertees and to be honest, when i start the car its driven off slowly until it gets warmed up, then i may put my foot down slightly.

I am trying to be as honest as i can about this car. i have looked after this car and in return it has looked after me. It does seem quite nippy to me, but to be honest i haven't driven any other polo gt's to know what kind of speed/acceleration i should be expecting.

The exhaust is an oldskool cheery bomb! i love the sound of these exhausts and they are an easy fix or an upgrade to a standard exhaust! (ok i admit it goes no quicker, but it sounds great). It went throught the mot with this exhaust on too.

my final plans for this car was to have it resprayed. as you can see i have taken off the side skirts and arches. they were in terrible condition and just made the car look like it had a tacky body kit stuck to it. i planned on getting the fixing holes welded up, and then a respray in the same colour. The paint job is what lets the car down really. In preparation for all this work i have 2 spare doors and a bonnet (red) and a front o/s wing (black p[rimered). after the re-spray, the car to me would be finished (ok not perfect, but for a daily driver it would be more than fine).

all in all i think this car will give someone great fun and will start everytime on the key if it is looked after. a few of the earth cables have been upgraded to due to previous stereo installation, but that has now all been removed (the parcel has NO holes cut in it).
