'Oil Service' flashing

Featured Replies

HI Guys and girls

I'm loving my little Polo 97 1.4 8v. Not very sporty but great for my budget!

Anyway, I do not have an owners' manual and the car is flashing saying 'oil service'.

Does this just come on every X, 000 miles to indicate a change is needed? or is it a more complex system than that? I have checked levels and its seems to be fine and still greenish.

The oil was last changed only 4,000 miles ago so I guess the service reset was not done?

So.....I know most people would say change oil every 5k but i don't have the money for that, I do it every 10 k. How can I get rid of the warning light?

Cheers

Russ

Just take it toyour local garage with diagnostic equipment and get them to reset it. There may be a way to do it yourself using the ignition and mileage reset button in a certain combination ( I know this applies to the golf), but not sure on the combo - if there is one.

I hope I helped dude :)

Hey, a garage shouldn't reset the light unless the service has been carried out, but as you say it was serviced, I think with the ignition off you hold the trip reset button down then while still holdin git turn on the ignition, the oil service light should flash a few times then reset, I hope this helps you, I'm not 100% as I can so many combinations rolling round my head lol. You can do it yourself mate, it's similar to that^^^ but i can't find the thread where it's got the exact combination, sorry!

the combo is hold the mile reset button on and turn the ignition on and wait for the the count down thing to finish :-)
