1.4 16v AFH tuning

Featured Replies

Hey guys what the easiest way to get an extra bit out of the AFH engine?

So far all i can think of is

4 Branch manifold

de-cat

Full exhaust system

Decent induction set up

Remap

Will this see much of a difference in the power?

millions of threads on this mate, you gotta use the search. And from what I've read the difference from the above mods will be noticeable but not massive by any means.

I've got enclosed filter, 4-2-1, de-cat and straight through system,

gave it an extra 16 bhp,

is noticable but not until you get high up the revs

did you rr it before the mods or are you just going on the standard 100bhp figure

Its already a very good engine for power:litre. You dont get 110bhp from a n/a 1.4i easily, and most 1.4i VW engines have been 60bhp.

First thing id do is fit a 1.6 bottom end,but you'll at least need it re-mapped for that if not different injectors etc.

i am not even going to start the argument about de-cats again..

just went off the standard 100bhp figure

Do it

A lot of them beat 100bhp in standard form, seems vw were conservative with their estimate or maybe there is some confusion as to whether the 100bhp figure is at the wheels or the fly...

No confusion, 100 bhp is at the flywheel, and rolling roads lie. Hope this clears it up  :)

sounds about right!

spend loads of money on those listed modifications or buy a polo gti engine...

How much extra power are you going for? How much have you got to spend?

You could spend 10K and get it to nearly 200hp (seriously, on the stock head) but that's about the limit, and it's not going to last forever!

You could spend 2K on a turbo and get there cheaper with an 8V (which has lower compression and will take the boost easier)

To be honest i am open to new idea's and suggestions. I was even thinking about a 2.0 16v out of a mk3 golf?

thats the route I've decieded to take, was pricing up tuning the afh but cost was ridiculous for gains

I've herd that you can use the 6n2 gti crank and pistons. that turns it into a 1.6 16v and then u just need get the fueling sorted.

i would like more info on this. for example can use bigger injectors to get it running to where u can get it remaped cus I'm geussing it will not even run on standard map and injectors with different crank and pistons.

got be cheaper than an engine transplant. specialy because you are going from a small block engine to a big block engine.

could do it without a remap if you used carbs and then it would make some good gains I'm shure.

anyone that has done it post up how much bhp u made.

well thats what i was going to do originally, but doing the conversion will cost me roughly the same price so went with that
