hey, just a quick one if anyone can help..

i got a mk3 polo project an just started it to be honest. i need to get new brake discs anyways, cos they have a big ridge and very old. i want to put G40 brakes on, i believe the only difference is they are vented? no diameter change. so would i get away with just getting disks or would i need calipers, carriers etc? and if i do, are anyone selling? assuming they are still the same diameter, they will still fit in a 14" p-slot?

and i found some rear coilovers.. nice and easy, but how do i go around fronts? i hear you need to change the hubs?

You need G40 discs, which wont fit inside the standard brakes. You will need VWII calipers and carriers found on G40's and mk2 Golf GTi's, available all over the shop if youre willing to look. And if youre buying second hand, its worth giving them a quick clean and replacing a few of the rubber seals to prevent needing to whip them back off once fitted. But Yes they will fit inside 13" wheels and bigger.

Alternatively use a spring setup on the front if you dont plan to change the height often, much cheaper but involves a fair bit more dicking around in my opinion. yeah wont be adjusting all the time, so could be worth just a spring set up, will check that page.cheers

just a side note, you dont need the vw2 carriers, or atleast i didnt anyway when changing from standard mk2 brakes to g40's

Mk2 golf 239mm vented disc's and the vwII calipers. The calipers fit to the carriers already on youre polo.. then you get to enjoy improved vented braking.

Just make sure the calipers say VWII on them and they will fit.

256 is too big, they wont be VWII's if its a 256

They're fitted to loads of 90s cars,my discs and calipers are from a 1.8 MK3 Golf,they're still 239mm vented discs with VWII calipers and standard '86-94 Polo carriers.

If you're running 14in wheels you're better off using Vauxhall 256's,

I got vwII calipers, carriers, vented discs and pads (with shizzle loads of life in em) off ebay all for £15 :-)

I expected them to be useless and need complete rebuild due to the price. Mechanic mate looked over them and they were tip top, nothing seized and bleed nipples came out a treat. Pads had loads on them and the discs were as new with a bit of surface brown on them (not pitted or anything).

What's the marking that needs to be on the mk2 carriers for VWII calipers to go straight on? I can't remember

Mine was built 86, registered 87 so I'm hoping it should be alright.

Yeah was pretty lucky with the find. Especially as i thought they would be mullered. I have changed the flexis but didnt invest the money on braids as i was worried it might need more on its MOT. Turns out it needed funk all lol.

If i remember right the brakes were listed pretty bad and only showed up if you typed polo 86c brakes or similar. Random.

Anyways bottom line is my old brakes were shot and so any upgrage will feel like I'm chucking anchors out the window :-)

ok well just tried some 2.5 v6 vauxhall brakes and they fit, so thats the answer!!

now need 15" alloys as p-slots are too small now. so if anyone knows of any for sale? oh and got some p-slots for sale CHEAP lol

14's will fit over vauxhall brakes. My mates done the conversion and he has several sets of 14's.... One of those sets are teardrops, same dimensions etc as P-slots i believe.

there is no way 14" will fit, theres about 10mm clearance from the caliper to side of a 15" rim..

10mm is a huge amount of clearance. What wheels? Some wheels are better than others at clearing brakes. Bear in mind if you've got 10mm of clearance, then a 14" rim with 2-3mm less "meat" will fit. What disc size do you have now?
