if it's a mk2 then it would have to be pretty mint to be worth that. mk2's ain't worth a great deal any way, add the fact it's an auto and it drops right off the desirability chart i'm afraid.

I had a '90 Scirocco GT 1.8 automatic ten years ago. It was a really good car,handled very well and was fun to drive despite efforts by the strange 3-speed auto box to ruin it.

Having only three gears,they're very long ratios. The thing surges forward nearly enough to give you whiplash when it changes from 1st to 2nd under full acceleration..

Id have another,great driving position and large boot,excellent visibility,fun,and i think they're timelessly stylish inside and out. Even the engine bay is stylish.

But it'd have to be a manual.

seriously is this bloke smoking crack? he's insured it for almost as much as you could buy this for mint mk1 scirocco. the fact that a car is in good condiction and low miles doesn't automatically make it worth loads of money, a car has to be at least slightly sorth after for that to be the case

Agreed. My mate on here had a proper mint Scala injection and it was quite obviously the best car ever, even though he only had it for a short while. The seats are some of the most comfortable fitted to a road car, the dash layout just works, and they handle. A Mk1 Golf, for people with a bit more taste.

they are ugly as sin, the dash is vast and featureless, the seats are the same as all the other 'sports seats' fitted to vw's of the time which are ok but in no way "some of the most comfortable fitted to a road car"

yes lots of bum licking and it is over priced, but the fact remains that good mk1 rocco's (no matter what their trim level) sell for a good 3 times that of a good mk2 and the prices are rising nicely. unlike mk2's good mk1's are few and far between.

also my mate sold an early mk1 golf last year for some where around 6-7k iirc, that was so basic spec that the window washers were operated by a foot pump. when car's are sort after and rare, when they are in very good condition they sell for lots even in basic trim.

Hence only insane people buying them, at that price

Why don't you try driving one that hasn't got a wheezy 1.8 carbed auto lump in it and see how quickly its short coming become apparent? Even with a manual box and a weber carb mine couldn't pull the skin off a custard

They still run mk1 golf brakes, chassis and engines but all have to deal with the extra weight of the mk2 rocco which really takes the edge of what could of been a great drive, even more so on the gt's with their solid disks, guttless engines and lack of rear anti roll bar amoung other things. If vw had released the 16v over here it could of been a very different story.

I can appricate a nice mk2 but as standard they don't do a lot for me.

my dad used to have a rocco and i fucking loved it, the only reason he got rid of it was because he was having a company car with with less than nearly 300k on it lol
