Erm...........probably!

I would be very surprised if you could find an insurer to cover you....

z cars do them for minis but would probably cost 10,000 at least

i doubt insurance would be high at all because i doubt you could find an insurance company stupid enough to insure a new driver in a highly modified bike engined hatchback. the cost of the conversion and running costs would be very expensive too and i very much doubt you could use it as a daily tbh.

you need to do the work , get the vehicle sva tested to show you are not a numpty with a spanner then insure it as a kit car :-D

the easiest way would be to mount it in the back and using a chain drive on to a modified sprocket with a drive shaft connected either side of it drive each of the rear wheels.

not the best way but by far the easiest

vee-dub: i think there was something as it rings a bell but cant remember for were I read/heard it.

The one issue i hadnt though about was the pic above is in a mk1 golf, the heavy 6n frame might put too much strain on the engine/drivetrain.

mk1 golf is about 800kg standard (<taken from an online source so is most likely a lot less) and that engine has 350 bhp so thats about 444bhp/ton as the car is stripped then its could be 500+bhp

6n is around a ton so you lose about a hundred bhp instantly.

Mcloving: that would be most definably the easiest way, rear engine would mean bigger engine space. :)

Tbh mate it is a crazy idea for someone with not Much mechical skills and a 17 year old.

I spoke to Z-Cars a few years ago about making a frame to fit a Hayabusa engine into the back of my breadvan. They quoted £4000 just to make the frame!

Then you have to add on the price of an engine, rear axle, plus the million other things to make it all work. Not worth it IMO.

Then you would be wrong. Haven't seen the Dutch (I think), 6N with a bike engine in the back? Rapid as fook. 150-160bhp with a 15k redline is enough to make anything moderately sized move pretty quick, plus bike engines weight alot less than car engines, all they have to run is themselves, not PAS, ABS, Massive alternator etc.

Bike heads are possible on other engines though! you'll need a chain drive to drive the cams instead of belt drive, machine the block, and chop and change some bits, but it is possible.

I wanted to put a GSXR engine in the front of an AX GT powering the front wheels (more to be different than anything ). I had it all planned out and found sources for all the parts I would need, but I didnt have the time. Ended up putting it in a Seven chassis though, which is now finished and awaiting its first test session :

not sure about daily driving though like people have said, and i dont think insurance companies will touch you unless you maybe went specialist - plus you'd definately need to know your stuff if planning on doing it yourself.

You'd probably be able to get insurance by the time you finished the project assuming you're 17 now. It ain't gonna be a quick one.
