Polo 9n 'from shed car to show car'

Featured Replies

you are viewing this post on my polo 9n or mk6, it is a 2002 'E' model which means it is the basic of the basic. it had a bad repair on the passanger side, it had a hole in the bumper, the wing mirrors had been smashed off, and it was very dirty inside. Heres a few pics:

We bought this car as a non-runner, the symptoms we got given lead to a timing chain tensioner, a very common problem, so common that VAG now make a kit to replace the chain. we got hold of a kit, and fitted it in under a week, we then found out that this didnt solve the problem, and the car still wouldnt start! so we looked deeper into the problem and found that if the timing chain tensioner breaks then it can cause cylinders to crack, if this happens then the engine must be taken out and the head must be replaced, and gues what?! this is what we had to do. we managed to get a brand new head for a very low price. here is a few pics of the work in progress:

so as soon as the engine was back in, we noticed straight away that it was running better, but the idling revs were very low, and it even stalled, this was something to do with the ecu, and we got it sorted.

next is the body work. here is the list of parts changed, bought or modified:

new bumpers

genuine vw sideskirts

genuine vw spoiler

new badgless grill

new tailgate

new passenger side door

new rear lights (from 9N3)

new headlights (angel eye style)

new shark fin aerial

new door mouldings

new bumper mouldings

new wingmirrors

new 15" team dynamic wheels and tyres (looking for some 17" audi comps)

new 9n3 GTi exhaust and back box

new door handles

and on top of all this weve had a full respray, bumper mouldings, door mouldings, under bumper, mirror caps have all been colour coded.

here is the pics, its now running mint, and looking amazing, we are replacing most of the interior that is damaged or scratched at the moment.

**UPDATE**

got some audi comp alloys and got them refiurbed, i wanted them polished, but didnt want the hassle of having to clean them every day... but this fantastic refurb place offered me a finish that is a painted finish but looks polished, i am surprised that this method isnt more popular... the pace that did it is called lap-tab(www.lap-tab.co.uk), in the midlands area. refurb cost £200 (polished look, tyres fitted, wheels balanced)

very nice mate i like it! good work looks ten times better

Needs lows + Black badge.

Other than that it's really quite cool :D

Hey there, I myself am thinking of buying a very similar polo as what yours was when I started.

Could you stick some pics up of the interior?

And I'm interested in putting in some electric windows.. can you recommend an aftermarket kit and any installation tips?

Cheers.. car looks the bomb too ;)

Get some coilovers on and job done. Good effort getting it all sorted - wingmirrors smashed off sounds like an angry ex to me

Looks cool, i like it.

looks tidy, however the plates are illegal and the de-badged grill looks awful without the bonnet cutout being filled in. I've said that to everyone who debadges 9n's, its far less noticable on black ones, but its all i can focus on from the front. such a shame not its been fully repainted1

the standard honeycomb gti ones look mint not sure if they retain the badge, but if it does, imo it would look far tidier.

not a fan of the dubway sticker either, but i am picky!

first time I've seen the innards of a 3 cylinder badboy though, amusing wee lumps

They look really really week compared to anything I've ever seen haha. Lots of open space and less metal.

That grill and ride height are horrific haha.

Other than that, looks alright, very oem looking.

I agree with the grill and height. I'm thinking a black vw badge on a standard grill would be nice :) and lowering. Don't need to slam it on its arse. Just to reduce the arch gap :) other than those two things it looks sweet! Does tempt me to buy a 9n :p

Thirdededed, first thing i really noticed haha.
