Fuck me the Scirocco R's are quick!!

Just been out in the Polo (humble little 6N 1.4 CL lol!) and consider myself a competent driver shall we say! Pulled away from a set of traffic lights (slightly briskly but certainly not booting it), not knowing there was a Scirocco R lurking a few cars back. Casually going along, then I see these blue headlights dart from one lane and pull up behind me, race on I thought (still didn't know what it was!) Anyway, I dropped a cog, booted it and pulled into the left hand lane, at which point I realised it was a Scirocco R, and it literallu flew past me. Through the twisties I gained on him (this is where I consider myself better than average, carrying speed through corners, braking late!), but come the straight... well you know the story!

Anyway followed him onto slip road and onto motorway, just making him out in the distance. He was being held up by traffic, so I caught him. He pulled to the middle lane, I was flat out on the outside, got to about 95mph and just passed him, and he then darted behind me again, I must say that a Scirocco R looks absolutely mean in the rear view mirror when it's up your ass! So, I get to about 100mph, pull to the middle, and he flies past again! Quite funny as I was bouncing backwards and forwards to signal I was flat out, when he was just casually staying up my ass before I pulled in. Lastly, along came a really long stretch of motorway, I nailed it foot to the floor, got about 112mph out of my lil' Polo 1.4, he must of slowed down a little to let me catch up (playing with me), but the way it pulled away from me when I was doing over 100mph... impressive to say the least! Then he was gone never to be seen again

I want one! Was quite a young guy too...bastard! :-D

Just thought I would post this up since I was so impressed! 5 minutes later had a little ding dong with a Mk3 G40 too, was pretty quick, but didn't half let out some smoke!! Caught him through twisties again though! Why is it so many people can't handle their cars around twisties? There are so many cars I have embarassed in my Polo (standard 1.4 8v) through the bends and corners (albeit around the areas I know), obviously a straight line there is no comparison against quicker cars, but learn to drive your cars properly! Can make up so much time on people through late braking, it's unreal. Guess it is a confidence thing though.

Saying that we all try to keep up with fast cars to see how fast they actaully are (just how much they own you by) like when I attempted to keep up with a new RS lol soon as noticed me coming up behind he hoofed it and within a few seconds was miles ahead, no intention of even attempting to beat him as that would be stupid.

So are you telling me that all drivers are of the same ability, just comes down to how far they want to push it? There are a lot of factors that decide how competent one driver is.

Seem to have totally missed my point! I said I caught him slightly in the twisties, but went on to say people don't drive their cars to their potential through the twisties! Perhaps it is because they have brand new cars, an investment to protect, hence don't want to be thrashing their car around.

I would have to be a fucking idiot to think a 6n Polo could out handle a Scirocco, where did I say that? But it's a fact that I can stay with much faster cars through the bends, obviously not on the straights. Perhaps this is down to the fact I drive around in a cheap, old Polo (so what if it blows up) as opposed to a spanking £30000 plus sports car, fair enough! It's also true that I can push my car to 100% if you like, which is the equivalent to maybe 40 or 50% in something like the Scirocco. Hence it would be almost impossible and potentially dangerous to drive the Scirocco at 100% like you could a 1.4 polo.

Yes you can look a bit like a cock, but if I hadn't have tried staying with him, perhaps he wouldn't have nailed it, and I wouldn't have got to see this Scirocco R pull away at 100mph like it did! First time I had seen one on the road and only really wanted to see how fast it was, harmless fun.

But it doesn't take away from the fact that there are some cocks out there who try to get away from you in the bends, but can't, then go on to leave you in a straight line, where is the sense of achievement in that? I'd feel embarrassed and would rather not drive the car fast at all.

also if he was having fun toying with you, you dont wanna cane it off coz where would the fun in that be i got rinsed by a new shape S3 down some dual carriagway about a month ago in me zimma, pissed me off coz he really was slow round the roundabouts and slowed me down and prevented me from carrying through the much needed speed lol. and he knew who i was apparently, as his friend called a mate of mine to brag about 'caning me'. damn him

When i was coming back home one night a scooby was sitting up my ass on the back roads were theres no place to overtake is fun, Even though i full well knew if he was infront he would have raped me through i tryed to see what i could do :), when we got to the straight i didnt even bother to try and out run him, flashed my hazards once , he flashed back, over took and stormed into the distance while i have a smile on my face :)

No worries mate! I can understand why somebody could take this the wrong way, but yes he could have left me using just 50% of the car's capabilities!! I only caught on him slightly, so he was probably barely trying at all, where as I was pushing it 90% or so!

This is the problem I admit! It seems really fast, but the reality is that I am in a 1.4 Polo... slow as fuck

Hence why I said what impressed me most was the way it pulled from 100mph+, I was doing over a 100mph and he was just cruising at about the same speed in front of me, then he nailed it and it flew off... impressive!

Anybody seen a Golf R on the roads yet? I saw one parked up at Regal Autosport in Southampton a couple of weeks ago, must have been a customer's car. Didn't look particularly impressive or very 'special', no doubt a very capable car, but didn't do it for me! Perhaps it was because it was red, blue may have looked better, and I didn't like the wheels either!
