So,

Quick intro - the 6N2 was bought for my wife, but seems to be my toy to be honest.

It's a 5 door 1.4 16v SE, so it's well specced already.

First things to do were to ensure it was mechanically sound and I had renewed:

• Cambelt/tensioners and water pump
• Clutch Kit inc release bearing and clutch cable
• Catalytic Converter and front o2 sensor
• Full engine service

I then added:

• 4300k HID kit
• Remote Central Locking kit with flip key, and added the window rollup relay trigger too
• Jackson Tuning 60/60 lowering kit (complete strut and spring kit)
• Dezent Type V 15x6.5j, ET38 rims (perfect for this car and suspension setup) - polished face with black inserts
• 195/45/15 tyres (brand new but budget)
• GTI front grill
• Debadged rear

I'm actually an official agent for Elite Remaps and do a lot of mobile tuning. I always planned to tune up the Polo, but just wanted it to be running 100% first... I finally sorted out the last mod on the list today - Stage 1 Remap (on this ECU it's actually a chip out and reprogrammed - not as simple as OBD remapping)

The remap has really made a lot of difference. I only run the Polo on V Power (my own car is a highly tuned Accord diesel and I run the Owners club - we debate fuel all the time) - as the remap on the Polo advances the timing, the higher octane and cleaner fuel really works well together and the car now feels GTI'ish.. Much more low down grunt and free revving throughout the rev range. I cheekily also got the tuner to raise the rev limiter

Anyways, the only outstanding things to do are to fit the red grill stripe (on order from eBay) and raise the rear ride height as it's set to 60mm at the moment and not really practical for the mrs..

I also have an annoying dash knock, like the dash isn't mounted correctly and a couple of days ago the Airbag light came on. VAG.com is telling me it's 00588 Resistance Too High on the N95 drivers airbag.. So I'm going to try and strip the dash out this weekend and refit everything correctly. I think maybe the airbag slip ring has moved or something...

If anyone can shed some light on how to raise the ride height on the rear Jackson Tuning struts that would be much appreciated.

Raised the rear struts up 20mm this weekend and finally fixed the annoying wobbling dash for good!! Turns out two internal 10mm bolts were missing (dash must have been out at some point maybe for pedal box).. Car feels so much tighter now and actually raising the rear upto a 40mm drop has made it more composed and less harsh.

I found that the clock spring ring connector had grease all over it - after cleaning it, I managed to clear the airbag light.. but it came back on again after some driving so I'm wondering whether it's still not making a good contact.

I'm off work this week so will be taking my time and giving it the clay bar and wax treatment and will post some better pics. My first car was a MK1 Golf and tinkering with this Polo really takes me back :)

Car looks real good man! Where did you get the window rollup relay from? And is it easy to fit?

Re the window rollup, I just followed a guide for the R Click kit on one of the other Polo forums and you just need a relay from Maplins (singe pole, double trigger I think) - couple of quid.

Your central locking kit needs to be able to send a signal for the rollup, most universal kits do - and you just splice the relay into the existing loom and job done. It's really quite neat, and the fact it closes the sunroof and windows is very very useful when the mrs is karting the shopping and kid from the car etc.

A few more pics from today. Gave it a wash and dry, but no time to polish. Still looks quite presentable in the pics though..

You can hopefully the see the ride height has been raised at the rear from the earlier pics, by about 20mm. It's now riding at around 40mm rear and 60mm front.

I've also added the red grill trim and some red 16v badges from a MK3 Golf valver.. The debaged look was just a bit too bare for my liking and I didn't want a GTI badge as it's not a GTI.. It is technically a 16v and as the ECU has been tuned, in my head I can justify the hot red badge

The wheels were an impulse buy as I was struggling to find aftermarket 15's that were 6.5' wide and the right offset. At ET38 and 6.5' wide it can wear the correct 195/45 tyres and not catch on the arches even with a 60mm drop..

looks coo, where did you get the rev limiter raised + how much did it cost?

I'm a mobile tuner for Elite Remaps. We did it in-house buddy.

It's not just a rev limiter increase, it's a complete remap - inc new timing, fuelling etc.

As per the PM, if you can do without the car for a couple of days and willing to send me the ECU, I can do a special club price of £199 inc delivery back to you.

Taking the ECU out of this car is a 5 min job, no tools required really.

The remap itself has given the car lots of new low end grunt (more than I thought it would), it revs faster and cleaner through the rev range and the throttle response is much sharper. I had the rev limiter raised for fun really, as the wife won't hit it - but I will when taking it out for a blast

To me it's just set up how it should always have been. An 8bhp gain isn't massive, but it's the whole character of the car that changes for the better - even the engine note is slightly sharper.

We tend not to do many jobs like these anymore as most modern cars are tunable via the OBD port - which is much easier for a mobile tuner.

But fully recognising there's a wealth of older cars out there with owners wanting to squeeze more usable power out, I'm happy to take these jobs on - but we don't really have the time to come out and do these at your premises these days.

Splitting the ECU, and chip from the PCB, reprogramming etc - needs to be done back at base to ensure it's done right.

Our usual price for most remaps is £249+VAT (Except some higher end vehicles). We tune and have contracts to tune, haulage vehicles, buses and even tractors!

For you guys, if anyone wants their Polo doing and you're willing to send out the ECU for a couple of days, as I said, I'll do it for £199.

That darn cat decided to wee on one of my nicely polished 19' Diamond Cut Rage alloys on my Accord tonight (you can just see it in one of the pics). Cheeky thing, just looked up at me and went right at it!!

Well the weather wasn't so bad today so I thought I'd give the Polo a quick wash. I'm itching to give it a nice polish and top wax one of these but just not finding the time. It does come up nice with just a wash though..

Also added some 5 door VR6 seats recently - they go perfectly with the grey door cards :)

Also fitted a Nokia Bluetooth car kit, and swapped the 4300k bulbs for some 6000k..

I keep thinking I'm done with it, but I won a pair of headlights yesterday on ebay. The current ones are all scratched and faded, and the internal motors are disconnected from the mechanism to adjust them.. I was going to go for some Angel eyes but I don't want to chav it up.

Sometimes angel eyes can look good and not chav

But its best too look out for someone breaking a polo with GTi splitter.

Or if you cant wait go to VW dealer, will cost you around £40-50 there, thats how much mine was.

Some fresh pics from tonight. It's come along since the last pics, I've added a GTI splitter, Colour Concept Recaro's (I added some rear headrests retrimmed in black leather from a donor car), new red stictched gaiter and gearknob, interior LED's etc and a few other things

It's had a small repair following a little mishap in the snow and I took the opportunity to get my mate to sort out some scratches and give it a paint correction. She looks brand spanking new in the flesh!!

Yeah I know, the wheels aren't my cup of tea totally but it's my Mrs car and I wanted rims that won't catch. These are ET38 so only 5mm over the standard ET43 offset and running on the correct size tyres.

In the flesh they actually look ok really.

I'm well chuffed today though, I just won a complete GTI tailgate complete with factory spoiler... IN SILVER

I'm hoping it's a Satin Silver (LB7Z) and not the reflex silver so I don't need to have it painted.. Picking it up later this week. That was the missing touch really.

Gonna try and make it to the Hudds meet and meet some of you lads. I'm very active in the Accord scene as that's my daily drive but I'm finding myself getting hooked to this place too
