na motorserv. and fitted by a shit hot mechanic. where would the best place to get them from??

Buy genuine VAG if at all possible, fit & forget mate!

fair play sounds likle it will have to be done all over again

It indeed does, unfortunately. A real PITA, been there myself (and so have a lot of others unfortunately). The VAG ones are about £35 IIRC, but well worth it.

ahh not that much. i got this one from £20 I'm going to get lowerings shocks and springs just got to work out how to fit them. and buy some 2nd hand hubs n shocks build it all together and then swap them over

Sounds good, although it's not tricky to do the springs and shocks yourself on your originals (might save you needing to buy struts) - make sure you buy new rubber top mounts for the front and a ball joint splitter comes in very useful. A spring compressor is really needed to remove the old VAG springs without doing yourself some damage. At the rear, the bolts securing your dampers to the rear axle beam can rust solid to the damper, meaning cutting them off is the only answer, so I always buy a couple of rear damper bolts from VAG just in case (only a few quid anyway).

I've lowered a focus st. that was easy. just dont know how to split the strut from the hub as I'm replacing the complete lot. and i was gonna buy new hubs so i can do it and still use the car.

thinking of these http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?...=206092&hl=

but dunno how to fit the front shock. am i correct that i have to nock the old strut out from where it joins onto the hub, at the box section part ???

You can't split the strut from the hub on a MK3, it's a one piece strut. Once the springs off, you undo a cap and lift the shock out of the strut assembly - really basic setup to be honest.

Might bump in to you at the Polo show!

how much do you tighten up the hub nut once a bearing has been replaced.

and also do the new bearings that are sealed (like skateboard ones) need to be greased??
