ok here we go first time on here... couldnt here my fan cutting in on my 95 polo 1.1, so i thought i would do a check by taking the plug sensor off the radiator, first time i tried there was nothing so switched the wires and the fan kicked in so i thought thats ok, put everything back together and now when i turn on my ignition and start the car my clocks ie rev counter petrol reading mph clock and tep needle are ok untill i go to pull away and everything drops down to its position as if i had turned the ignition off, i have checked the fuses and they are fine, so i tried taking one of th fuses out the 15amp green fuse 2nd from the right hand side for the interior light, and when i key on the ignition my clocks make a noise as if they were resetting, turns the car over and all clocks now work hmmmmmm, but now when i key off the temp and fuel needle stay where they are and the rev needle drops to about 5rpm, mile omiter drops all the way down, next time i key on the ignition all my clocks reset to the off position and ten reset ie tells you how much fuel you have temp needle sets to its original position rev counter drops back to norma i start the car with this 15amp fuse out and everything works normal untill i key off again, and all my clocks freeze again. When i put the 15amp fuse back in with it keyd off all the clocks reset as i can see the needles drop as they make a noise, untill i key on and syart the car again, but if i have the fuse in when i drive all my clocks go off but when i take the fuse out all my clocks come back on, any ideas as to whats happening would be a gr8 help. could i have blown something in the back of my clocks, or, could it be a relay problem or a ceu problem anyone come across this problem before thanx jimmy

Thanks for all the information, but I'm stabbing in the dark here. Were the instruments OK before you looked at the fan?

When you say that you 'switched' the wires, did you not find three terminals on the plug? There may only be two of these in use ( the other is for a two-speed fan) so it's worth checking that you have now got it back to the original. for all that, I can't really see what the fan has to do with the instruments. However, you did say that it's OK 'till you pull away, that suggests to me that there is a bad connection somewhere, but can't for the life of me think what part of the wiring could be stressed by pulling away. Suggest that you check all of the wiring connections on and around the engine.
