Right, i have looked through the bike carb thread and the only things I've found are in posts by myself, no ones corrected me so i assumed the it was right.

middle wire on mk3 coil plug to negative on mk2 coil?

anyone care to shed light on why it isnt working?

cant help you on the mk3 side, but your correct in taking the signal from the negative on the mk2 coil.

the wire is red with a black stripe on mk2s, may be the same on mk3s, what are the colour of your wires coming off the mk3 coil plug and mk3 (now redundant) hall sender plug

Coil plug is black - green w/black stripe - Brown

Dizzy plug - orange with red stripe - green w/white stripe - brown w/black stripe

i always thought it was the green w/black from the mk3 coil plug

problem solved:

forget the middle plug.

on the original ECU plug you need connection 31 (5th in from the right on the bottom row) or if you cut the ECU plug the red w/ black stripe wire.

Thanks to saf and charlie (polo3) as by putting both sides together i went back and looked at the wires i had left.

can you just consolidate that knowledge into the main FAQ, that would be schawibbady!

Done and ill be adding a few more bits to it. so hopefully it will make someone else's life easier.

I read what charlie wrote on polo3 and had this pane open next to it and in the funny way my mind works it all came together. I can also see now which wire's are fully redundant.

I swear it would be easier to yank out the engine remove every wire in the bay and start again, but I never realised how much of a mess that main loom bit actually is, plus it has multipule layers of black heat/fireproof fabric tape on it which seems to have 18years worth of engine crap stuck to it. so stripping all the redundant wires is the next job.
