i thought it would be an awful waste to weld them high and feel the need to go lower, so they are low, i can always weld another set higher up if i feel the steering is a bit off.

I will prob stay about the same height tbh Ben, but i can go lower if i want to :) Dragging blocks may well come into the equation....

okay still not on the road, but the timing belt cover is on the way, and the tools shop still hasn't got my soldering iron so i cant fix my expansion tank, but that there is still progress being made

new fuel pump, flow rate of about 170 litres/hour, I shouldn't be short of fuel, with new filter also

exhaust fitted and hugging the bottom of the car, so small notch in bumper to accomadate(sp) it

also joey modded the headlights and have fitted fog lights just need to sort final postion of them.

new rear shoes fitted aswell, to help me stop.

so it turns out an ebay special s/s manifold for the AFH will fit in my suit case.

just standard inies lightly sprayed red. they still light up as normal

Also Polo is now back in the shed, work has strated on the airbox, muhaha

The airbox is in progress, i made it from steel, inspired by the G40 style jobbies. made from old washing machine. Hippy happy mods!

This will should give me a 'cooler' air intake temp, (not verified by data)(yet )

I'll have to get a sensor in there.

I bought a cheapo s/s manifold, bargin at £40 delivered. to keep heat in the may down, I wanted to heaat shield it.

so I wraped it, in newspaper, cos I'm cheap, well it stopped it from getting scratched to death.

so found a thin sheet of ally knocking about, perfect :-)

measured, marked, cut, bent.

I needed to be able to fit the manifold and then the heat shield so it has two pieces, a section between block and mani, which covers the majority of it, and a section that covers the front of it, that can be put on after the manifold is in place. the two parts are fied together by the trim clips and screws from a speaker kit . we will see how they hold up.

all thats left is to tap some holes in the main flange for the 5 main fixing s/s bolts. looking to be m4 x 0.7 maybe 5mm in length.

Changed the thermostat housing as the lil pipe to expansion tank broke. cheers for the spare Pete

Since the Engine was fitted I've been having breathing problems with it. burning loads of oil, which I think may be pushing past the rings, due to crankcase pressure.

I'm going to refit the standard breather pod along with the catch can and vent from rocker cover.

Cleaned the breather pod out,was full of shite

Also cleaned the catch can, I was surpirised how much mayo was in there. shocking!

I now need two entries to the catch can, the plumbing fitting I had bought was quite heavy and restrictive, So I found a solder joint that the hose connectors would fit in, the will be soldered in and the end cut off to be less restrictive and nut soldered on there too.

so hopefully it will be breaathing better, and burning no oil!

I painted the catch can bracket and fitted the second bolt for it too

also painted the rad hose clips as they were in a state

I had spacers milled for the front to clear the coilovers, they cleared on the o/s but not the n/s so I will be re thinking the wheels suspension combo.

in the mean time I decided to do a lil more arch rolling up front and re paint them from here the paint had crcked and rust was starting, not finished but in progress

I manged to free the light connector from inside the 'A' pillar,

now to re wire up the interior light with foot well LEDs

also half undented the drivers door, its going to need a lot more work to get it looking decent again. but its a start.

Well it has been years since an update so:

In 2013 I fitted a replacement AFH to cure the burning oil issue,

so engine in and tined up, out for a test drive and the diff broke in the box,

Change box for a spare, go for a drive, sounds like alt belt is squeeling, thought 'Ill adjust that when i get home'

4 miles into the test drive, catastrpohic failure, engine dies

Lift bonnet to inspect, cam shaft is broken.

So there ended the polo journey to leMans.

fast forward,

2 volvos and BSc Degree later and I'm good to go again on this baby.

Not big update, but the car runs!

Over the winter I've got a rebuilt AFH in.

I had forgotten how much fun this engine is.

 

Also managed to get my speedline alloys powder coated, tyres on and fitted.

 

Need to do a few bits of tiding up and the car will be good to go, but that could be some way off yet.
