My beloved Polo has died on me. Despite my wish to get it back up and running, my missus has convinced me to cut my losses and buy a new car (which i have now done). I've either got to sell my Polo to someone who wants to repair it themselves, or i'll have to resort to taking it to the scrap metal merchants (which would be a damn shame cos i've spent a lot of money on this baby over the last year or so!).

Anyway, details are as follows:

Engine: APQ 1.4l

Age: 1998 (R-reg)

3 door hatchback

Petrol

Colour: silver

Mileage: 77700 miles

Location: Plymouth, Devon

Over the last year i have done the following:

• new tires
• new Ht leads
• New spark plugs
• New rotor arm
• New dizzy cap

The car itself is in good nick. It has a valid MOT until April 2011. But i'm going to be claiming back the road tax (which is until October - but will be happy to leave it with the car if you want to pay for it).

Issue with the car: about 3 months ago it started cutting out a bit, with the idle revs jumping about the place, speedometer not working then coming back to life, etc. Then about 2 months ago it started cutting out when driving back from London. Had to pull over on the hard shoulder for 30 mins each time before i could get the car to start again. Took about 8 hours to get home in the end.

Last month it had a problem starting from cold, the engine would turn but it wouldn't catch. Had to jump start it every morning. Then one day i couldn't jump start it. AA came out and said there was power coming from the coil, but nowt going to the plugs, reckoned it was the distributor itself. I changed it on their advice but still the same, so i've given up!

So that brings me to now. I can get rid of it at a scrap metal merchants, but to be honest i'd rather it went to someone who can make use of it, as i think it's a waste otherwise.

If anyone's in the Plymouth area and will offer me around £200 for it then it's yours! Add another £30 on if you want the tax too.

It's a non-starter so you'd either need to tow it, or leave it roadside until you can fix it (it's in Lipson).

Hall sender is the problem (or so it sounds). At most it would have cost about £30 from VW to fix. Or a second hand dizzy with a working hall sender in for what, a tenner.

Try it then you will be able to sell it as a runner for more
