Is it possible to remove just the trim from the 6n centre console like this from a different model

Yep! Pull the cover that goes over the heater controls off,it needs a good tug.then remove the top 2 vents at the top of the console.next remove the ashtray.you should see some torx screws,under the ashtray,behind the heater controls,and at the top behind the vents!be sure to remove your headunit,the whole thing should pull out.
