And half the matt cars i see look bloody awful. I reckon the prev paint work was better in most cases.

When the suns on mine it looks almost 2 tone from the right angle.

i like my satin paint for the simple reason, when its dirty i can just spray over it instead of washing it

i definently agree with that, and i also agree that my mk3 polo is just rat look. its not too fit in with a crowd as only know one other rat though I'm shure their r lots out there.

how ever saying one thing is not another, simply because it is not a direct carbon copy of where it orginated is ludicris. pregreshion is a natural thing and lots change from culture to another it is called hegmony (good books too describe this are either supersized nation, hegmony or survival, no logo)

ok i think we can ashume that simply matt or satin paint doesnt make a car rat due to all the pics of awsome matt cars, but that is only one ethos of the rat tradition (this is only true because people are trying to recreate extreme paint fade due to the hot sun in the country it originated), and no a roof rack isnt either. but a car doesnt have to have a complete subframe to be a rat rod, the main concept is that a rat has solid reliable mechanics and is usually a good tough ride so that the outside is a complete contrast to its function, i say paint it what you want but a true rat would fail an mot on seals and should only patch it plate and leave it instead of matching it in.

how is that assuming? it's a fact, painting a car in matt doesn't make it rat look.

it's not just all these stunning car's either, my first polo was euro but with a matt black paint job, it wasn't a rat it was just a matt black euro look car.

how can a type of paint finish possibly define the 'style' of a car? there are so many different things that define a car and the finish of the paint is way way down on the list in all cases.

it's just a type of paint, it's not like as soon as you paint a car with metal flake paint it suddenly becomes a low rider

the first rule on understanding or defining anything in analysis of a semantic break down (eg its orgins its progression and social/economic climate) is only to assume, otherwise you will just think your way into a corner, there are VERY FEW facts in life. even the basic educational ground work that primary and secondary schools teach as fact are often not, people often learn this when they specialize at uni and even then the rules change again when you do an ma or phd.

so i think this discusion should go on to explore other attributes of a rat rod in comparison to what we can achieve towards it within our own climate,

as mc lovin you did correctly point out that the original climate it arrived from is hotter and most of the cars have subframes, so what can we define as a progresion upon with in our own climate

i personaly think that given americas extreme capatalist biased a rat rod is about deception similar to what we would call a street sleeper
