So I owned a mk3 gt was great fun , but soon wanted something a little newer , had a 6n all slammed , was nice but it soon wore of , anyways I'm in debate , I'm thinking another gt. , but then a bora caught my eye and they look rather sweet slammed on Audi tt wheels ect. So I'd buy the 1.6s , might not be very fast but I like them .. Just wondering what people think off them ? Any good , or they just pure awfull?

Slow,average handling,dull to drive,unresponsive car designed to be easy and comfortable for the laziest generation of people to date.

Heavier than a Mercedes 190E. If its a change you're after,you'll certainly get one over a GT.

There slow, prob best getting the 130 diesel version but they all have incredibly high milage!

Can look pretty epic too tho, good if you want to clock up the miles or doing motorway miles.

Yeaa , well I've always though one in white or black , with polished audi tt comps slammed in to the arch and becaus of insurance a 1.6SR . i wont go bombing around in it so speeds not my aim , just want the more laid back saloon look with abit more space .

If only they came in 2door...

Ok I'm sorry. I agree it is epic. The sound of it when it was on the road was epic too! I dont think anything can explain the noise it made.

So to get back on the topic if you do it right then you could end up with something as 'epic' as Olly's

i was going to get one at some point, but i would never personally buy a 4/5door until I'm in my 30's.

I like these to, the 1.6s is 105bhp iirc so not the most sluggish thing around but then again its definitely not fast

I have a 1.9 tdi 110, plenty of room, goes well and is seriously good on fuel!

I did 490 miles at the weekend on less than 3/4 of a tank!

I think the Bora is the only booted VW that looks better than it's Golf equivalent. I used to think the Vento was nice, then realised it wasn't. If looks were everything, Bora all day long. They even handle better than the Mk4 Golf they are based on, not that it's particularly difficult.

whats different between the two then? i thought they were the same except for the shell/panels?

They are a stiffer shell, especially at the rear and I think the rear has a slightly stiffer spring rate.

No contradiction in this,but i agree with Toby on that one point. It doesn't look like a Golf with a boot,it looks like a bonafide saloon in its own right.

Albeit a bland one,looking as similar to a bar of soap as anything,but still.

Still looks like a boring Golf inside. I don't think they are that spacious either, specially with 4/5 people in, the boot however you can fit lots of bodies in.

They are slower then many diesel alternatives and priced rather high for that matter!

Insurance is higher then you'd expect too and stock they do look very boring.

I'm quite a fan of them and have considered getting one before but when I actually look at a few I'm always put off by the combination of what I said above, if you want a largeish diesel saloon car id consider looking for a passat, mondeo, octavia (very very simular) or an Audi A4.

i had a 130tdi passat and that went really well so in a smaller bora should be pretty quick

The standard speaker setup isnt much of a selling point really, they will be of lowish quality compared to any average aftermarket company's. Sounds pretty cheap but make sure its all fine first theirs probably more reliability issues on the 1st year models like that which would of been ironed out in later models. Also the mileage doesn't mean much without service history and MOT's etc to prove that mileage.
