anybody on here got breakdown cover? i.e. cover with parts cover so if you breakdown because your gearbox has failed, then the breakdown cover supplier pays for the repairs inc labour and parts for upto 500 or 2000, anybody know how this works as it seems worth while?

Hey, you can get it and I'm sure the AA do it, my dad was thinking about doing it for all 3 of our cars cant remember how much it was tbh (under £500), decided agaist it in the end. You get a limited amount of claims but even if you just claim once a year its possible you could have saved yourself a hed load of money anyway and i think there is a limit of the amount of claim like x hundred per claim but if its over that you can opt to pay on top. Best thing to do is give AA a ring

They also don't cover wear items (brakes, tyres, clutches, spark plugs etc.) and require that you prove you have the garage regularly serviced by an approved garage. Too much hassle IMO.

What I've seen of these, they don't cover much at all once you've paid your premium. There may well be more expensive ones which do give you better cover, but I would think that it's a bit like private health insurance, the older you get, the more you pay.

Just remember that they are in business to make a profit, not to give you free parts and labour.
