just bought a 1.4 2000 tdi polo, as seen. The speedometer does not work at all and the fuel guage sometimes goes from full to empty to full.

Also the wiring to the drivers side switch for the passgenger window was all burned near to the switch and melted together, i cut these further down the loom to where they werent burnt to stop any short circuits, i took the switch apart and it was wet inside, and someone had previously unplugged all plugs on this panel (drivers window & central locking, these both work if i plug them back in.)

could the three problems be related, or could the guage & speedo problem be related.##thanks

I doubt that the wires which you have cut out, or the wet switch is anything to do with your instrument problem. Just have a look at the reply which I have just put up for mintysweet with his 1995 polo, it sounds like a similar problem to yours.

i got a replacement plug from the scrapyard and it works the passenger window using the drivers switch, i left it on for a while and the wires didnt get hot so i just need to find a switch now.

I've read a few posts saying the connection to the cluster panel gets bad connections but... I cant see how to get the trim around the clock off, is there an easy way to get to it without making it look like the cars been clocked with screwdriver gouges etc. My panel is like this
