My 1.4 8v is fine on the motorway, i do 100 miles a day mostly motorway to get to college and it cruises nicely. If you want to overtake someone doing 80 you can put your foot down and it'll easily do it. I've had mine at the end of the clocks at 120 (on a private area). As Deviance said though, mines a stripped out L spec so its quite light, and got a 57i kit and exhaust mods.

The 1.6 would be your best bet, but as I said my 1.4 cruises nicely for motorway driving.

I had a little raz with a 206 Gti last night and it seemed to stay with that down some country lanes!

I never said a 1.6 polo is quicker than a 206gti, the driver could've been having a nap for all I know, it was fairly turfing though.

The way your original comment is worded does seem to sound like its on par with it in terms of speed. You could keep up with a Lambo if he was just driving standard style but you wouldnt say "was having a raz with a gallarado last night and it seemed to stay with that down some country lanes"

The 1.4's aren't that great on motorways either, my diesel 6n is great on the motorways but no one really likes the diesels...I'm so uncool. ha

Louder then a 1.6 version maybe but far from loud! You try it in a 1.0 6n2 or even a 1.4 Golf,they are far far louder (i know this from experience with a golf, 1.0 6n2 and a valver)

Will happily cruise at 70 at around 3k revs which is hardly high for a small engined hatchback.

I've had a 1.6 8v 6n and I'm currently driving a valver, its 10x better. pulls better, better on fuel, through every gear its better, so id go for a valver mate you wont be dissapointed

I can assure you it did was doing less then 30mpg at around 70 (did that daily in my MK4 for around 3months) it was almost 10miles to the motorway so the engine was warm and did a 30 mile trip each way on the motorway for work.

On the other-hand we got to poloshow and back in the valver on under £15, around 120mile round trip. I never pay alot of attention to factory figures on MPG as it varys so much on journey and driving style. The valver is also more economical then the shitbox 6n2 1.0 due to never needing to be reved so much, sure if you want to get around quicker the valver can guzzle fuel if you want to redline but thats pointless 80% of the roads around here.

As bondbill said my 1.0 6n2 was a bag of crap and the valver is the best car and the most fun car i have driven for a long while! (and thats coming from someone who has owned 8 cars) The valver does a lot more to the gallon as well. So as well as being a much better ride its a lot kinder on my purse as well. Oh and for the motorway comment with it being noisy.. it really isnt it sits nicely at around 3-3.5k revs at 70 with around 3.5k revs left to go till it hits the red.. and even at 70 it will pull.. VERY well starts getting noisy at around 90.. but even then its only on around 4.9k revs :p

A Mk4 16v on it's standard box is horrible at motorway speeds I'm sorry I have to agree. It's actually 4k rpm at 70, if you look at a GPS speed. They are after all only geared for about 120 mph. But they will still get mid to high 40 mpg at that speed!

Hense the "around" but its not noisy.. well mine isnt i suppose I'm lucky..? Or the fact I've been used to a 1ltr? But to be honest i love the little beasty and its comfortable and cruises lovely and isnt noisy for me or my passengers.

The 1.4 8v ant bad for a 1st car :), not too fast but i wouldnt say slow unless your 4/5s up

and its quite nippy, but i tend to turn the heating up to solve that :p

I find this hard to believe unless your private area is the bugatti test track lol I've had a 1.4 and 1.6s and there is no way that the 1.4 tops the clocks out....if anyone can prove me wrong id love to see the proof, other than that, i call b**lshit =D

Bear in mind 1.4s are cheaper on tax also.

i used to love my old 1.6 i had that clean off the clock was prob reading about 130 or very close to!! that was down a small hill thought but would have prob done it with out the hill tbh. i have had a valver and they are a great car, i like both. i have a 1.4 8v at the min and it not bad but the 1.6 was a massive diffrence on the 1.4

i would have bought a diesel but they are too hard to find and geting pricey now!
