anyone else please with a bit of incite

PM Panda... he'll give you the full breakdown

you WILL need to be or be bestest ever mates with an electrician to do it!

I'm pretty sure panda said after he did his he would never do another one again!

this is from andy (he is pandas mate/relation)

"big big big big big big bigggggg fuck on. gotta chop and change loads of the wiring loom and source some clocks from a 1997/1998 (cant remember the exact year, one of the 2) lupo with 1 plug on the back instead of 2 (pre canbus) which they only made in germany for 1 year. iirc they cost panda about 70 quid from german ebay and he got really lucky finding them!

and red 6n2 door cards come from the GTi's"

good luck finding those pre-canbus clocks :)

Andy's his brother and yeah, if you ask Panda he'll tell you that he'd never do it again...

Clocks are a pain in the arse to find (although Panda fitted 180mph clocks into the Lupo setup - he's got a 20vt in the car) and the rest of the loom/heater matrix etc needs to be changed to fit the new dash too.

He also had a problem getting the old dash out (ended up cutting it) and the door cards need changing as the 6n2 dash is wider than the 6n one, so you need the narrower 6n2 cards too...

Does look wicked though!

tbf pandas is a bit special anyway as hes running a 20vt with special management so most of his wiring is different anyway...i know this cause i asked him about it the other month lol

I also PMd dubprince about it as hes also done it, its easy enough to do but your gonna have to splice the looms together pretty much which is gonna be a ball ache

dubprince basically rewired his car by fitting a 1.6 16v engine and engine loom and then rewired the interior also

this seems the easiest option as then it all matches up

before people start pm'ing me lol...i'll simplify it for you.

The dash is a straight forward swap against the 6N dash ALTHOUGH you need to drill out the riveted brackets inside of the chassis left and right. The dash itself bolts into the car the same as the 6N one.

Parts you need to change will be:

Dash, Centre console, all under dash trays, doorcards (not easy!)- mirror triangle has a bracket behind it which needs to be drilled out and a new hole created to screw the mk5 tweeter triangle to the door. The door card requires the top window dust guide inside the car changing to a mk5 one and the insides of the door wiring will also need to be changed IF you have electric windows! as the mk5 has electric window swiches on the doors instead of the centre console (6N).

I changed the lock mechs, electric window mechs, door looms and everything else to mk5.

The heater matrix and associated piping needs to be changed also.

The 6N has dash tweeters, wheras the mk5 has mirror triangle tweeters- hence the door loom swap...this will mean swapping out the interior loom so its all plug and play for airbags etc...

The MK5's all use canbus, thus this signal technology relies on data transfer between different ECU's including the clocks. If you plugged mk5 clocks into a mk4- you'd probably only get speed but no revs and a load of lights up since the clocks are looking for signals from the ECU, Airbag ECU, ABS etc.

As previously mentioned- you want pre 2000 lupo clocks from say a 1ltr...might be worth trying a set of early cable throttle lupo clocks from say a 1999 lupo. IF you want to chop and change wiring to fit the dash- this will obviously require wiring diagrams of both the 6N and 6N2 and you'll need to cut the connectors from the 6N loom and join on the 6N2 connectors (wire colours differ- so you need to make sure you know which is which).

Personally its a big job...the reason i did mine the way i did is because, like Panda i fitted a 1.8T and the project got scrapped, so in effect i had a 6N 16v with no dash, interior loom or engine loom/engine! So i did the easy thing and converted it all to GTI spec at heavy cost at the time!

I charge £600 for the conversion and i've done 2 so far...No1NAZ on here can vouch for my work...heres a pic of his:

Yes...hard to believe this is a polo 6N...but i work on all dubs regardless of the looks ;)

BTW- Naz wanted a GTI conversion on his 1ltr polo so i did so, upgraded everything using a donor vehicle...but he soon got convinced he wanted the dash and door cards too after seeing and riding in mine...

I don't recomend you chop and change wiring, its easy yes but slightly cowboy in my eyes. :paranoid:
