got some free time today so the car got a bit of attention

the gearbox was whining and started to crunch, so i changed the gearbox oil. i then changed the engine oil and filter, so it's now running alot smoother and quieter (Y)

now on to the more exciting stuff...

bought a set of atiwes off deviance on here, he dropped them off to me as he's local and seemed a top guy. they have a few watermarks in them and are starting to look a bit dull so i gave them a bit of agro with some 2000 grit and a shit load of Meguiars metall polish and they're starting to look so good, could do with a bit more though....

before

Win! I'm sure you will look after them alot better than I did lol!

  • Author

haha i've seen much worse condition mate :L

think they're gonna need a bit more done before they go on though...

wheels look swish man

jealous :ninja:

  • Author

cheers mate. i'm pretty pleased with how they're starting to look, but they could be better

/\ I am also very jealous, this will look soo sick when finished. What drop you going for?

  • Author

i'm going for around the 80/60 mark. just trying to decide whether to go with the budgets or go all out on the 70/60 HnR kit...

Its upto you really mate, if you buy cheap suspension you will end up buying a decent set anyway. Save your money and just go all out (if that makes sense lol...) Plus wiht budgets they rattle your car around and after a while interior trim starts falling off :/

  • Author

that's exactly what i'm thinking, i don't fancy spending out twice on suspension when i can wait and do it right the first time round

Gotta say, with the PhilJ 80/60 kit I've had none of those issues.

If you got the money I'd go for an AP or maybe H&R kit, and use lowering top-caps with them.

car's running like a bag of shit and just looking for a few pointers.

basically it's got a real flat spot at mid rev range in all four gears, it's not getting up to temperature and is burning far too much fuel.

it's had a new lambda sensor, thermostat temperature sensor, thermostat and obviously a good service with all oils changed.

i've linked it up with the vagcom and the only error it showed was the lambda sensor but even with a new one it's not runing right.

any ideas?

Blue temp sender?

Air filter is clean? Throttle body clean?

  • Author

temp sender and air filter were also changed, seems to be running slightly less flat with yet another lambda but it's still not great.

main problem is temperature now, it just won't go over 80 degrees the fan only kicked in once the other day when i drove to frome and back which is a good 120 miles....

That looks so fresh bro! How easy/hard is it to take out and put back in the rear windows and windscreen? Did you put the original window rubbers back in?

If its running ok and everything then i think 80ish is normal for normal driving speed.

Someone can correct me but both my mk3s an my mates mk3 all run really cold... i think its just a polo thing! Just sit on your drive with it on idle, if temp goes up and fan kicks in then temp drops. Should be all fine.

In terms of suspension, i have the PhilJ kit which I have no complaints about but if you buy cheap, you buy twice. If there is even a 25% chance you will get the H and R in the future just save up and buy it now!

as i've just said on you're thread robbo just get the inner lip of the seals over the body panels and they'll near enough fall out so make sure you tape them to the body or have a second pair of hands. the old screwdriver and string trick works a treat. i used the old seals when putting them in again, using the string trick again in reverse. some people are gonna give me shit for using the same seals as i've seen it before, but i've not had problems with it and it's been a while since it was done now :D

yep, i'm saving for the HnR kit as i don't wanna spend twice, but i'm starting to get impacient and the budget kit is becoming more and more appealing by the day....

cool man thanks for the info, i remember doing the string trick on my old caddy, think ill do it on this and respray everything :)

My mate had borbet atiwes on his mk3 gt and they looked so sick, cant wait to see these on

yeah man, no point in taking shortcuts when it's just as easy as doing a decent masking job. especially if you're still considering a colour change, or have you decide to stick with the montana green awesomeness?

Not sure yet matey. need to find some money to afford paint first the i'll decide :)

  • Author

that's a fair shout, personally i'd save for the montana green originality though ;)

I'm gonna shop around for it see if i can get it any cheaper

so, was on my way home yesterday when some pikey on a 125 decided to plow into my rear end, causing himself to fall off and damaging both vehicles.

the whole rear end is misaligned and the N/S rear quarter has been bent, here's some pics of how it's looking at the moment.
