Running the power cable though firewall:

Original Question :: I need to know how i can run power cable from the battery THOUGH the firewall , cant find an easy spot. Dont really fancy taking the enigne apart to gain accsess to a gromit halfway down the firewall...

So , i have a 9N and i wanted to remove both cd and stero parts.

With help from the below post I've done it.

For reference to other people.

I needed two keys (I used keys)

Not sure what they where but i found them in the garage , they looked like this

I pulled the cd out first and disconnected it.

Then remove the deviding tray , this then allows you to get to the back of the stero to unplug it.

I then noticed that i needed an arial adaptor for my aftermarket headunit. Luckly i had my old polo on the drive so i just pulled the one out i had in thier and used it. You can get them in halfrauds for £2.99 i think.

oh , annnndd now i realise i need a complete facia kit with room for a cage and a cubby hole... I've just shoved the head unit in for now.

My original post:

It has a standard radio and cd changer in the car and I'm wanting to put my JVC head unit and sub speakers ect in the car.

1. Do I need special keys to remove the factory stero?

2. Do I need any wire adaptors?

3. Do I need an Ariel adaptor?

I know I'm going to need a facia , anyone know where i can get one cheap?

I have searched on here , only under 9n and mk6 mind you , this could have been answered else where under a diffrent car. Although there was no answer in one topic i found.

Nice TDI, yeah it is a 9n by the way, with the round lights like a Lupo.

1. You don't NEED keys, a strip of credit card or a flat tea spoon handle will do it as you only need to push them in to unclip it

2. Should just be a regular ISO connection, you won't know until you pull it out.

3. Shouldn't do no but it's dependant on the head unit.

You don't need a fascia, you need a DIN sized cubby hole to go above or below your headunit. For now, as the radio and cd changer are seperate, you can just leave on in.

I'm now stumped , ON my old polo there was a grommet which was easy to put power cable though.

Now with this 9N i have no idea where i can put it.

Is there any easy way of putting the power cable though the firewall?

there's a grommet underneath the ABS unit that you can make a hole through and get it through into the passenger's footwell.

Best way I've found to do it (i used to fit audio for a living) is to tape the wire round a screwdriver and poke it through.
