1991 Mk3 wipers not working at full speed

Featured Replies

quite simply the wipers on my 1991 coupe do not work on the fastest setting, they work on all other speeds perfectly, just when you flick it onto the fastest setting they stop wherever they are on the screen.

Would this be wiper motor or switch? In my opinion logically it would be switch but just wanted more opinions.

Thanks,

Mat. 8-)

It sounds as if you are correct in your diagnosis, but do check the switch with a multi-meter and check all of the connections before spending your money on a new switch.

my saloon was like that when i bought it checked everything ended up being the motor which i thought was weird as they are ment to last for ever.

i have one if you need it £10 posted

Polo wiper motors are apparently notoriously shit. I worked for Euros and we used to sell loads of them, so id bet its the motor. I've had 2 polos where the motor has been faulty

ok now this is confusing :disgust:

surely if the motor was faulty it wouldn't work perfectly on all other settings?

I had this problem on my Mk3, had a broken stalk so bought a secondhand pair of stalks, fitted them and the wipers worked fine so my guess is the switch, the broken stalk was for the indicators not the wiper control by the way.

Hope this helps

so how would the indicator stalk affect the wipers?

and i tried the wipers again today on the fastest setting and they worked very slowly. :?

found some s/h stalks locally so might try those :-)

No what I meant was the indicator stalk being broken had nothing to do with the wiper stalk, but when both were changed the wipers worked fine.

I did nothing to the motor or linkage.

Sorry for any confusion

ahhhhhhh, gotcha! :-o

managed to get a pair of used stalks less worn than mine, fitted these, and still got the problem

so must be the motor.
