Insurance for a new - young driver - 1.9 turbo sport.

Featured Replies

So.... I crashed my 1.4 1996 polo L , it was fun while it lasted. Allot of work went into that and I'm gutted to let that go.

I decided to look a diesel as i spent allot on fuel in the last two months.

I saw a 6n2 which i was set on. But for a bit more you could get a 9n with aircon ect.... so i went with that.

£3000 for a 1.9 TDI SPORT

100 bhp , around 180lb of tourqe and 10seconds to 62....

now.. this is actually cheaper then a 1.4 polo which takes what 15 seconds to that?

I'm just amazed at it was cheaper then my petrol , that’s why I'm writing this thread. A quicker , newer car is cheaper only by £35 but i was expecting it to go shooting up.

I've been driving what 2-3 months , I'm 18 so I'm young and they let me get insured on a 1.9 d turbo sport ,

I'm just like  at the moment

how much was it for 1 years insurance?

works out around 2000 , paying monthly £203 a month at the moment however my policy started on provisinal which i paied 97 a month so it all works out around 2000 a year

diesel can get you more miles but not when you drive around liek an f1 racer thrashing the turbo. if you drive it ecomically then it would work out ok, but i have this feeling you aint.... :)

lol, well I'm being sensible in this one as £3000 for me is allot.

The only thing wrong with that car is a tiny dent in the roof and slight scuffs on alloys, for an 8 year old car its amazing!

I'm driving with a light foot now, the petrol was well.... don’t know how that survived for so long :/ , VWs….. they last

Also due to up and coming life changes , i maybe doing alot of motorway miles so i can just cruise in 5th

whats your rev range. i never go above 2000. I'm in 5th gear at around 30 mph. my old petrol pug i could go 5th at 20 mph but diesels seem to no like it that low. yeha on motorway you will see the savings, ofcourse if you just 'cruise' ;)

TBH even if you keep the turbo spinning, your still going to see better miles returned for you buck!!!

But as regards to it being cheaper, its just the stereotype of diesels being slow my friend, as odd as it may seem insurance companies arent yet aware that diesels are being to catch up with their petrol counterparts to a degree.

For instance my 1.4 tdi has the same bhp as my old mk1 clio rt which is also a 1.4 but petrol, the polo is quicker than the clio and the polo is 1200 less to insure...that figure is based upon when i first passed my test.

I try not to go too Far over 2k however when i need to get out say at a junction or a roundabout, flooring it seems to do the trick.

I was looking at the MPG on the dash , I just change gear according to how the engine takes it. 5th gear in 30 in that car uses more because its struggling, the MPG will drop and it did. Putting it in 4th seems smoother allowing it to tick over nicely where the MPG started going up nicely. Nice to see you actually saving money on the display lol

I'm glad i went for a tdi and not another petrol.

and yea , i find even when i spank it i still get a good 35+ out of the car around town. Out on the dual carriage way foooork me it was at like 55 just after leaving where i picked the car up and was still rising untill i got back into a town.
