insurance being dicks about a conversion?

Featured Replies

a friend of mine is wanting to insure a car i got him, but insurance are being dicks.

Basically i have a taken a 1.0 polo coupe and put a 1.3 gt engine in the car, they are saying for that reason they wont insure him????

if it had been a 1.3 and put the gt engine in it would have been fine and not even altered the insurance?

i have done many conversions and never heard of anything so stupid like this, anyone got any ideas what to do or where they confusion has come from?

cheers

Yeah, seems a bit stupid.

I had the Saloon insured as a G40 and listed all the mods with Adrian Flux and they didn't charge any more than they would have for a 1.3 CL. I then checked insurance for a standard g40 and they wanted twice as much. I'm not sure how they work it out sometimes.

last time i done a conversion on my caddy they wouldnt insure it until i changed the logbook over as when they put the reg in it came up as 1.9 diesel but was converted with a 1.8 kr hooked up to the original diesel gearbox when i stated this they asked me to change the logbook with dvla which i did no probs went back they insured it under a classic policy with agreed valuation at an extra charge of 18.00 hic was the company i used

so if i change the log book to 1.3, when they check the vehicle will it update with this info? or is it all stored info?

I dont know the answer to that one but if it helps, the DVLA have a pretty quick turn around on log books these days. I bought a car last wednesday and the log book was sent off the same day. I had it delivered the following tuesday with all the updated information on it. I swear it used to take 3-4 weeks.

National database that insurers use will still have it down as a 1043cc until it gets updated by the DVLA. Until then, they wouldnt be able to geive you an accurate quote.

x2 thats excactly the answer they gave me if you fill in the relevant section /s of the logbook denoting anychanges then when you get it back phone up and give the reg it will come up as a 1.3 thats a nice lil car as well see some pics this afternoon

my jetta is still a 1.3 on the log book and HIC never had any issue insuring it with the TD conversion declared :?

Dan has he tried a different company? if these are being dicks about it it may be because they just don't like insuring modified car's? like companies that give people massively high quotes to scare them off?
