Mk4 Bumpers

Featured Replies

Guys i have a question about the bumbers on the Mk4 and seeing as how my partner only bought the car yesterday i thought i would come to the people in the know to beg answers to questions,

My first of probably many is the Mk 4 (1996) that she bought has the old strip bumbers with a metal section both front and rear, the metal sections on both front and back have rusted heavely and I'm going to replace both, but when i look at pics of the mk4's on the net they seem to have full bumbers with no metal sections below them. Is this full bumber an edition to later versions of the mk4 or can i replace the 2 piece (metal/plastic) bumbers on her 96 mk4 with these full bumper i see so many pictures of?

For example from:

to this:

All the help and feedback would be so much appreciated guys,

Brez

Welcome :)

The one piece plastic ones are referred to on here as "16v bumpers" as they were standard on the 16v models. But they were also standard on some of the 1.6 models, and 1.4 SEs.

I think the VW name for them is "sport bumper" if you're searching for a pair.

Hi thanks for your reply, first off i was wondering if the 16v bumpers would fit on a car which currantly has the 2 piece bumpers fitted. And secondly if they do fit then yes i spose i am looking for a pair heh.

Thanks,

Brez
