Just loving the car man, I'm a sucker for nice wheels and a nicer paint colour! I've got the 6n, but I can see myself financing a project for one of the older ones :D

Cheers mate, shes still no where near finished, Got alot of body work to do, The rear aches are shot.

Gonna need Welding, Flaring , fillering and painting.

Updates tommorow , Exhaust :-)

Cheers alex,

The colour is one of my favourite parts, Having second thoughts on wheel colour though because it doesn't contrast with the paint at all, Making the car look a bit bland.

Haven't fitted the GT head and cam yet because you need to switch it over to a electronic fuel pump because the original fuel pump is ran of an extra lobe from the cam.

That might be tomorrow's job, with the exhaust.

UPDATES: 04/10/2010

Because the exhaust bashed on litterally anything bigger than a peice of paper , it was causing big problems of where i could actually drive it , so obviously it had to be sorted.

First thing i did was take a good look at the exhaust from the side of the car to see which bits hung low, Made a little note and then wipped it all off from the manifold back,

Then i cut the exhaust up into 6 sections , then re-welded each section in turn back together, Using the notes i had made on the exhaust , Mainly it was just a case of rotating and re-angleing all of the sections so when the whole system was put back on the car it sat alot higher up and was no longer the lowest part of the car :smirk:

Annoyingly my welders fucked so i had to use the spare welder from work...............................This pile of shit:

26092010894.jpg

A gasless 105a :retard: , It did the job i suppose, but the welds were hideous, Covered in spatter and spunk.

26092010896.jpg

It pretty strong, Can hold the weight of me and two mates on it , but look at it lol

A pic of the system after a few welds:

26092010890.jpg

I also couldnt shift this thing so just cut the inlet pipe of it and used it as my tail pipe, haven't got any pics yet but it looks spot on for me.

A nice diamiter and made from stainless. Will get some pics us ASAP of what it now looks like.

My plans for now untill i can get 1.3 head is to just fit my new webber and GT cam to the HZ and also convert it to run an electronic fuel pump,

First thing was to sort the pump out so i fitted a Facet instead of the mechanical one, Some pics:

Fitted all that up and tested it and the heavens opened so i could fit the cam and webber :crybaby: , Really wanted to give the engine bay a scrub, Its seriously filthy.

Some pics of before and after of my cam pulley, There wasnt anything to do at work on friday due to testing having to be stopped so was bored with nothing to do, Gave it a lick of paint and a polish:

This is the new colour code btw, Goes with the jade green-ness

Hope you approve.

That green is sick!

  • Author

All engine components are gonna be that green 8-) , Looks better in the flesh tbh.

wouldnt it be better using a T piece than a Y piece?

Just a thought although I'm probably missing something

  • Author

What do you mean mate?

What difference would it make? does exactly the same thing

Just a T piece there would mean the pipes need to bend more.

A T piece might be better, and even then there is a good way and a bad way of plumbing it up. Which some people have found out. What you don't want to happen is all the fuel just head down the return pipe.

That Y piece would prob work as well but the I would say the plumbing needs to change. Swap the feed to the carbs and the feed from the pump and it may have a vast difference in the supply of fuel to the carbs. Fluid will always go on the path of lease resistance so there is a chance that the fuel could just run back down the return line. if you swap the pump and carb supply lines out the path of lease resistance will flow to the carbs and only when pressure builds up at the carb will the majority of the fuel be push back to the tank.

I think...

  • Author

cheers max, i did think about this. I used thicker fuel pipe to link the Y peice to the carbs so that the fuel should allways want to go that way initially (according to flow dynamics at uni) lol , at the moment she seems to be running fine and have got through a full tank with no problems, if i do start to have running issues from fuel starvation, ill give it gander.

cheers for your input

Max

Single lamp round grills on mk2's i personally think work the best ,

Really like the look of this looks hard as on the wellers .

  • Author

Cheers mate,

Glad most people like it on the wellers, I think in the future I'm gonna be taking the 165 65's off , Have a change of colour and fit some 175 50 yokos.

As for the single light grille personally i like it best aswell, I'm going to be adding the red coupe S pin stripes though. 8-)

Update 13.10.10

Quite a big update,

Have finally fitted the GT cam and 32tla webber, Also had to convert to run on a electronic fuel pump but iv posted pics from that above.

Also found out that the head on the HZ is of the same spec (port and valve size) as the GT, so my orignial plans to fit a GT head aswell as the GT cam would have been pointless

Spec at the moment;

HZ bottom end (1043cc)

GT head + GT cam, Head slightly polished and ports cleaned.

webber 32tla replacement instead of the pierburg 1e3. Throat polished/ported slightly, rubber adapter block widened.

Inlet manifold pre-heater flattened off and polished to improve flow.

After fitting it all i took it for a spin and couldnt belive the differance its made, Pulls right up through the rev range, and pulls pretty well.

Still looking for a mk3 exhaust manifold and GT exhaust system, Anyone got anything?

Future plans are;

Buy CBF400 or CBF600 carbs and rebuild, Fit to this engine.

Buy either 1272cc bottom end , or maybe the 1.4 ABD bottom end? and swap it out.

Some pics of the work and parts;

Inlet manifold before work began, Very dirty!

Gave the insides of the ports abit of TLC, removed casting marks and polished slightly,

My new rocker cover, Gave it a propper good clean and then sprayed it gloss black;

Next was to fit the GT cam, Will do a seperate thread on how exactly its done , just incase people who are interested in doing it can maybe follow it and have a bit more info before they take their engine apart.

love this 8-)

bet the weber sounds beautiful!

You should really use a swirl pot for the fuel line setup. Also it looks like the pump is drawing fuel up the supply and return line?

Cheers mate,

It will sound good when i get rid of the big UFO Air intake!

Watch that video iv posted up!

How would it be doing that? lol , I dont get you.

And i have got a swirl pot to fit , If i had the output of the facet pump to the inlet of the swirl pot, then the overflow of the swirl pot to the return line back to the tank, would it overfuel the carb?

so is it running nice with the new cam etc?

can you feel the difference or anything?

what engine size isit?

  • Author

yeah runs sweet as mate.

With that , the webber and inlet manifold modification its pretty spritely!

When I first looked at the pics, I thought you had the supply and return lines to the tank going to the t-piece, when only the return should connect to the T-piece. It's ok you've got it right. My bad.

gotta say i really love this car.
