Parents as named drivers?

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

Basically, insurance is coming up for renewal soonish, so started doing a bit of looking about,

Had a quote of Just over £1700 TPFT with 1 years NCB, however, put my mum and dad on the policy as named drivers and it drops to just over £1000 TPFT

Now my question is, what effect does it have on my parents if i happen to stack it or some old biddy writes my car off and i make a claim? as my parents obviously don't want me to affect their no claims, and my dad needs his license for work being a HGV driver, so if anyone could shed some light on what happens if i make a claim, and if it affects my parents, i did a bit of googling but to no avail!

Much appreciated

Lawry

So long as you're the main driver and they're the named, a crash wouldn't have any effect on their NCB so long as you were driving at the time of the accident.

as above, if the policy is in your name, won't affect them if you bin it.

I'm a parent, named on both my son's policy's. One of them totalled his C*"*a. Didn't affect my NCB at all.

I checked with the insurance broker before putting my name down, so no worries on that score.

don't you actually gain a bonus for removing vau*****s from the road?? Or was that just a dream...?

^^^for every C***a removed from the road you should get a road tax refund.

Haha took me a minute to work out what a c***a was! lol.

Bewarned though if you have your parents on your policy, and the insurance company find out or suspect your parents havn't actually driven the car (god knows how they would find out such information mind) it can void your insurance I do believe.

Was on some program on TV once I think

Surely that only applies to people who are fronting? With a parent down as the main driver. Not just having parents as named drivers.

i put my brother down as a named driver, it dosnt matter if he drives it or not, hes insured if he wants to, if he dosnt drive it then it actually reduces the risk factor as its only the main (me) person driving. however the other way around, he is the main and I'm the named and it turns out its only me driving (they do ask neighbours about it) then the insurance is void. there are loads of things you can do to lower insurance, thatcham alarms are pretty cheap now, pass plus/advanced driving courses etc its all worth looking into. alternativly find yourself a classic car, my polo is 1300 a year. i had a bmw 316(actually had a 1.8 fitted as standard) and it was 200. the savings are ridiculous if you can find a classic wich is in good nick.

How old do you mean by classic though? I could insure a Mk4 R32 or a Mk5 Golf GTI for less than my Mk2 16v.
