How should I do it?

Featured Replies

I am about to insure my 6n 1.4 8v, and have been reading a bit on forum but still don't know who to put as named drivers? Me or my mum/ dad? I would like to get a quote of £150 a month. What do you recommend?

I have a quote of £140 a month with co-op with my dad as policy holder and myself as named driver, but they don't accept coilovers and this is the only mod I want to do.

Forgot to mention: I am 17 and just passed.

You can add anyone to the policy as long as they have a license. On mine, I'm the main driver (to keep it legal) and I've got 2 named drivers just to bring quote down, they'll never drive it but it halved my quote :)

have you considered using quality lowering springs instead? these don't require declaration AFAIK.

what?!? ANY modification has to be declared.

rzezin - all you can really do is experiment, there's no single answer as to who you can add to bring insurance down it's different for all companies and all circumstances. There is no single answer, you'll have to phone up as many companies as you can and get as many quotes for different combinations as you can. Although I would add that putting someone else as the main driver is called insurance fronting and is fraud, it happens a lot but insurance companies are clamping down on it more and more.

my bad, the last thing i wanted to do was give out misinformation. The reason i said that is because a friend of mine recently put lowering springs on his golf, and said that his insurance company didn't mind as long as the WHOLE suspension wasn't changed for an uprated one.

maybe it varies from company to company, or maybe my friend is full of it

some companies dont mind simple things, I've heard of a few companies not being bothered about wheel changes providing you dont moan at them when they dont pay out for them.

i got the exact same car (1.4 8v) and what I've done is put my self as the policy holder but then but my mom dad and uncle to lower the price by a load but it still £1900 in one big go or it adds up to £2700 if you want to pay monthly witch is a rip of but when you look at some of the forums people are paying that for a 1L this way you will get the no claims and also if you are a named driver that means you cant use the car as much as the policy holder but they dont no that just sommet to keep a eye on dude

well he has declared it then in that case. Whether they charge him for it or not will depend on the insurance company but the point is you have to tell them.

quinn direct seem to be okay,

i'm the main driver, my dad as the named driver. so i can build up no claims.

my dad has two speeding offences.

and i'm £1088 on provisional (including legal cover) TPFT.

the most they can bump it when you pass is £1000

and i rang them up the other day, to put coilovers on, and remove the backseats increases my premium just over £140

which isn't too bad as i am only 17....
