I'm planning on doin this but wen i got the cash ill be gettin gt head and cam,,but I've heard the heads are exactly the same its just the cam thts different is this true too ?

Yeah with no problems, Take you about half an hour, With abit of timing advance you'll notice a moderate differance.

cheers pal, looks like iam off to scrappy tomorrow then :)

A moderate differance

how much would you say if you can explain

Double valve springs too...

I've done this.. Just makes the engine more lively in higher revs..

Don't forget it's only a 1.0..

Difference can be felt tho.

GT heads are the same as all N/a 1.3 heads (bar the double valve springs).. iirc, 1.0 heads have smaller ports, inlet I think.

i really hope can get the funds soon martin b

so what would be more noticeable a 1.0l head with gt cam

or....

Gt head with gt cam

thanks

Yep, all the 1.3 heads are the same apart from internals (cams , some GT heads have double valve springs and g40 heads have Sodium filled valves)

The 1.05 heads have smaller inlet ports and valves, don't know about exhaust ports because all N/A (normally aspirated) exhaust manifolds are supposed to be identical regardless of engine capacity, which i haven't had confirmed to me yet, maybe some one with more knowledge could?

MR.P, get PM'ing me back!

GT head i'd say to be fair, not trying to get a sale or anything but VW wouldn't have put it in a 1.0 head if they knew a 1.3 was better. the ports are larger which improve the flow too.

All this info should be somewhere in the engine section.

A 1.05L head and GT cam = You will feel noticeable difference throughout the rev range, If you dyno run it you would probably gain a few horsepower, But its the way that it revs more freely and faster thats the biggest advantage in my opinion, makes you able to use the little power you have lol

A GT cam as well as the head = You would probably loose a bit of low down power because of the slower air speed through the larger ports , probably wouldn't even be noticeable, but you feel pretty good gains in the mid-range and high end because you will have slightly increase the amount of air/fuel getting into the chambers.

The tiny ports on the 1.05 heads as well as the tiny throttle body is the biggest restriction on the AAU.

the 1 litre heads are better for porting (when used on 1 litre engine) but if you cant be bothered with porting, the 1.3 head is a very good way to make the engine more revvy.

I modded a 1 litre engine a few years back, fitted spi inlet manifold and a diy throttle body made up of a 1.3 injector and 1.8 spi throttle body, chipped the ecu with a poloace chip, fitted a straight through exhuast and it flew for what it was. Easilly as quick as a 1.3 spi.

I think vw fitted smaller inlet manifold and smaller ported heads to the 1 litres to restrict them, so there was more difference between it and the 1.3.

Yeah varnish is the best person to ask lol, Its amazing how much he knows off the spot.

Jon, Have you fitted a 1.3 head aswell as a cam to a 1.05 bottom end then? What was it like with everything else standard?

yeah i did kinda think that but id rather hear it from someone tht has one and know what there on about , your gt head comes with the gt cam don't it?

Get the 1.3 gt head and cam, makes a bigger difference than just the cam.

I've put a 1.3 head and cam on a 1.05 and using a completely custom carb set up on one of my mk2's, its off the road at the moment ,

i Haven't properly took it out on the road yet and its not set-up right at all but can all ready tell its much much better.

I'm planning on doing this to my current mk2 as well because i don't think i'm going to be able to swap a full engine, a 1.05 bottom end, 1.4 ABD head (same as GT) and cam, and a webber 32 tl or DMTR, Then will hopefully get a set of CBF400 bike carbs in the future. The only difference between the 1.05 and 1.3 bottom end is that the 1.3 has a longer stroke, Meaning that the 1.05 will be a faster revving engine with this set-up.

Should go pretty well mate.

nah left the head std. didnt keep the car long enough to do anything else. bought a gt for £100 and the mrs wouldnt let me keep 3 cars!

i might build myself another 1 litre, as I'm convinced that it would make for a really fun engine in a stripped out polo. i've always been fascinated by high power short stroke small cc engines. minis and imps are proof you can get good power from small cc engines.

Yeah same here. I'm concemplating on weather to stick with my low milage 1.05 bottom end or drop in a ABD bottom end. Obviously the ABD would have much more power, But i dont think I'm gonna be able to get the block out on my own, My mates arent mechanically minded at all so no point asking them, and anyone on here close enough to help is in the same boat.

Also, i dont think id be able to insure a 1.4 being nearly 19.

My new plans i think are 1.05 bottom end, GT head and cam , polsihed 32 tla webber , and a ported/polished exhaust manifold.

Also need to find out if its worth modifying a GT inlet to accept the carb, or use a normal mh/hz one, And also if the 32 webber is up to the job or fueling it, Iv guessed it will be because I'm sticking with the small CC bottom end and they allways over fuel slightly.

Another reason I'm doing this is because iv allready got these parts apart from the webber. After this I'm planning on buying a set of cbf400's and making a suitable manifold.

Sorry for the rant lol

you could mod a 1.3 spi inlet to fit a carb. its a much larger bore than the carb inlets. looks almost similar to the gk inlet

a normal 1.3 spi? really? And theres much more of them for sale on here.

I wonder if the GT has a bigger bore though.

so oncea gt head has been put on ,what other modifactions can you do to a 1 l

hmmm anyone

Bit ambiguous towards the special offer/pricing, but one of these chips is highly recommended.

Best thing you can do IMO is get rid of any dead weight.

Yep, weight is a killer. Make use of the power you've got.

Theres plenty you can do, After fitting the GT head and cam you could then go onto fitting GT fueling, Bike cars, a DMTR , All sorts.

You should bias to Mid-range , High end power though because of your small stroke.
