Hey guys,

Basically I bought a cheapy Kenwood KDC-3034 off ebay, meant to be in fine working condition but didn't have the ISO lead to convert it, so I got one off ebay for like £2

It all fits fine, and I bought new fuses so didn't think there would be any problem once all fitted. Turned the ignition on and nothing.. no power what so ever to the head unit, as if it's not even plugged in.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, as The lead I bought has a bunch of extra wires coming off it as you can see in the link above, and they're not connected to anything. Sorry if I'm being an idiot about it and missing something obvious but any help is much appreciated! Maybe it's just a dodgy head unit?

By the looks of the picture, the main live seems to not be connected to anything.

IIRC, the yellow and the red get swapped on the VW's. You need to connect the yellow and red from the headunit into the main loom (the ISO block).

Oh right I didn't realise, thanks a lot man. How would I go about this? cut and solder?

Oh and I just found this on one of the online user manuals, I take it this is what you mean.. (pictured)

Right, so i switched the red and yellow cables round, luckily the already had bullet connectors so i literally pulled them apart, swapped them and plugged them in.. But still no luck, I plugged my ipod into the left and right audio out (to my sub) and using the yellow 12v cable off the adapter to the remote for the sub, and the sub and everything works fine! So unless I'm still doing something wrong, I don't think it's the cable..

Maybe I just got sold a dodgy head unit?

Weird though, cause i messeaged the girl who i bought it off, and she seemed happy to refund my item as she said it worked fine in her car? Hmmmmm

Isnt that big black wire with the circular plug on the right of that picture supposed to be connected to that plug coming off the back of the headunit?

Mine never work without that plugged in.

Yeah that's the arial aint it? and naa doesn't make a difference if it's in or not, Just wont power up! :(

probably obvious but have you checked the h/u fuse? and the car fuse that powers the h/u?

I dunno if this makes a difference but it's what I did yesterday and had no problems. the Yellow and red when I switched them over I switched them at the connector end rather than half way along the wire so the yellow wire is all yellow and red is all red. It's easy to do, u just need a really thin screwdriver to press in the sticky out bit of the pin that holds it in place on the connector, unplug them and swap them and remember to switch your yellow/red wires back in the middle if you are gonna try this. Hope it helps.

all the wires in the iso connected to wires in the main harness ? just a thought
