Project Snot!

So I went to the garage today to see how it was getting on! There are still a few issues with the car - heater fan is knackered, the fuel and temp gauge has a mind of its own. But other than that its MOT'd and ready to go!

So I decided to get the car stripped down and do a few things today - still need to get it fully washed and polished. But you'll get the idea!

Well it made it to and from the local Scottish meet yesterday.

Further list of things to do since the run:-

Change heater fan

Fix oil leak and change timing belt

rebuild suspension inc top mounts and arb bushes

No rev counter, fuel gauge or temp gauge

And all that has to be done before the polo show!

Heater matrix and fan done - also took the clock out and then refitted them - gauges worked for 2 miuntes then went off again - think the clocks are fubar!

Need to rebuild suspension next, replace all teh front end bushes and top mounts with 40mm springs and shock kit.

last thing to sort will be the stereo!!

Hella grill and yellow fogs.. ohhhhh!!!

Whos is the R in the background?

Neighbours birds car!

Got about £400 left to do all the suspension work and the radio bits and pieces - plus the idle is still a little slow!

Awesome, girls in R's

I want some of the window wind deflector doodars. I assume you can get um? I'll be in touch soon ;)

I may get a few sets in so I can bring a few down to the show??

While I'm getting the springs and shocks done (probably with a bit of help!) I was thinking about doing the inner and outer TCA bushes replaced with powerflex ones and getting one of the g-laderseite front ARB block kits too along with new top mounts. I've also got a steering damper to fit too! :)

Looking amazingly clean compared to earlier pictures!

What sort of drop are you going for Andy? Yellow lamps a bonus as is the Hella Grille. I'd say fuck the suspension and put your money on a headlamp washer kit ;)

Fair play to you andy it has come a hell of a long way! :D

Will sort headlight washers and electric windows - maybe even an electric sunroof - but eventually!

Fuel gauge & temp gauge are annoying me still - the crankshaft oil seal is leaking so will get done along with the timing belt.

replacing all the suspension components inc both TCA's brand new with the inner and outer bushes replaced with Polybushed - Front G-laderseite blocks, 40mm springs and shocks along with new top mounts for bot front and rear along with new spring caps and all the other fixtures and fittings!

Just won myself a couple of AFM's too as Richard did an ECU error code reading and the AFM popped up - so have got a spare GT afm to fit along with a Golf AFM to uprate to.

Also got a steering damper from a GT to fit along with a new lambda sensor and a few other bits and pieces!!

Just ordered a handful of parts for the suspension via my local stealers (I have a trade discount!) to be told that 10 of the part numbers are obsolete as of last year and I cant get them! :( WTF!

  • Author

Already emailed them with a request for the discontinued parts! :) hopefully I'll get an answer soon!

Springs and shocks arrived yesterday! :)

  • Author

Still waiting for:-

New clocks

New AFM

New TCA's

G-laderseite ARB Blocks

Powerflex TCA bushes

top mounts for front and rear

Oh and I ordered about £150 worth of Parts from VW that i'm collecting later!

Nice shopping list

It kills me when i have to spend a load on the car like that (happens every month at the minute though) but my god i get excited when i get to look at it all

I think the time is fastly approaching, that a lot of polo parts are becoming obsolete from VW

If you can bring some to poloshow or whatever I'll defo have a set off you (the wind deflectors)

turned this one around! nice work mate.

The car doesnt like ticking over at all - especially when cold. Richard pluged in his code reader & it flagged up the AFM - so fitted the new one this morning. All is fixed - now ticks over nicely! :)

Oil seals & Timing belt getting done next week. Then with some help from Ross and his Compressor and tools we'll get the suspension rebuilt too!
