New oil seals (crank & cam) done, but still leaking oil!! Could be the end cover gasket - so just tried ordering a new one from VAG, they said its obsolete and with a bit of digging found it had just be replace with a new number! £3.50 - should be here tomorrow!

Need to concentrate on the camping bits and pieces now! :)

Should be a 40mm ta Technix kit from phil J, but sat way too low at the back, so raised the back 2 notches! Huge Thanks to Ross (13kPoloGT) - for your help, garage & tools!

After it was fitted and the back raised - front needs to setlle a little!

Looking good Andy...

So has it been fully road tested in preperation for the Show Andy?

Still impressed with how clean it's looking.

Seems to be ok - still leaking oil - should be fine as think its just the oil pump cover plate gasket. going to get that sorted friday - need to sort the speakers in the dash as 1 works - the other farts at you. CB radio is on its way.

Need to check gearbox oil again as left my dad to fill it, only took 1 bottle, dont think thats right!

I've done about 450 miles in it!

Got upto my parents around 6.45 - took the rear suspension back off, check the spring seats were correctly fitted (which they were) raised the suspension up to the next notch on both sides - much better!

On the way to and from work over the last couple of days i've had a strong smell of petrol when I put my foot down. Couldnt find anything under the bonnet and the tank seemed dry. Parked up at tesco yesterday to come back to a puddle of fuel under the car looked underneath, my fuel filter has rusted through and is constantly weaking fuel! Must get worst when the fuel pump is at high pressure!!

Oh well - 1 more thing on the list to fix!

Also won a Kamei Boot spoiler to go on it! :) £6 on ebay! :D

All looks amazing.

But theres one thing that pisses me off

Reverse rake.... either needs to come up at the back or go lower at the front.

Real like the style of it. Grille looks badass

Honestly think its the wrong shocks in the kit I got from Phil J - the rear sits way to low - thats it on its highest setting - maybe just drop the front a little as i'm happy with the height at the back.

Well it made it to and from the Polo show with only 1 mechanical problem - driveshaft bolts coming loose! But other than that it was quick enough and did decent mpg!

Even got a few points in the show and shine

Had an issue today - went out with the kids for a drive to see one of my old friends. Decided to give a Type-S Civic a run for its money around the back roads to his house. (no breaking the law - the roads you can only get upto about 50 between corners even if you pushed hard) Then the handbrake/brake fluid warning light started flashing. handbrake was off - engine was running fine. pulled over and checked the vacum hose, checked the fluid level in the bottle - read maximum. couldnt find anything wrong - turned off the engine - light went out and stayed off until i started to push a bit harder and then the light started to flash again. got to my friends house and took the top of the brake fluid reservour to find the plunger missing! Weird!

  • 3 weeks later...

and you did all this with the kids in the back  hope you bought them harnesses, sick bags and pillows!

can stick a new plunger in or replace the cap its a standard item fitted on most similar age VAG stuff.

did you rolling road her at the polo show? would be nice to know whats she is runnning. Always felt a tight an nippy engine and the G40 clutch keeps it grippin.

  • Author

Na - never rolling roaded it. (As far as I know!)

Never broke the speed limit against the Type-S, just a nice twisty road to chuck the polo about. I want a bit more go - better brakes & i'm going to save up for some coilovers at some point too. Not finished with this yet.
