I know youve probably had this question asked 100's of times, but i'm 17 and have just passed my test.

I have a 1988 polo twist 1 litre which is unmodified.

However the cheapest insurance i have found is £2700 which is ridiculous.

I just wonderd if anyone had any suggestions or specialist insurance they know

Try co op insurance. I'm 18 and I've been driving for almost a year now. I'm with an independant broker atm and theve quoted me 2100 for next years insurance. I tried co op and they quoted 1600. Thats a 1ltr 1992 Genesis

I'm 19 with pass plus no NCB and just got a 1988 polo fox 1ltr bready, cheapest quote I've got is so far is £2456 with Elephant :(

co-op quoted me over £4K, adrian flux quoted £5K just because i live in a dodgy area

was that an online quote? because they wouldn't give me a quote online either,

direct line wont insure you if it is going to cost more than 3k, thats the "sorry we're unable to provide a quote" msg, its the same if you ring them.

have you tried adding parents as named drivers to get the cost down? Also look into things like how much voluntary excess your willing to pay and removing any options like courtesy cars/windscreen cover.

Occupation and where the car is kept overnight also contribute to high rates. I'm a musician/web designer and this year I saved about £70 for putting I'm a web designer as my main job. They see musician as leaving my car in dodgy places! It's not lying but being more clever about it in that respect.

I removed all my 'options' and had both parents named drivers with a high voluntary excess and it was around £900 1st yr.

I'm with directline, i know I'm bit diff cause I've not passed my test but I've got my dad on as a named driver and mine 800 a year. and mines a 1ltr breddy =] only thing is you have to ring up because the age of the car they wont do it online

I'm now with some van insurer paying 800 on my 1ltr van

i've just taken out my first full year of insurance (no gaps) with admiral on their multi car policy.

my parents are both named drivers which brought the cost down by a few hundred quid too! i'm paying £717 for the year at 18.
