I've been away from the forums and vw scene for a number of years despite having a G40 and Lupo in the back garden doing nothing. After my current car, an Alfa 156 2.0 died I decided to get something a little more reliable and fun to drive. A really well looked after mk3 CL coupe came up for sale and after a little negotiation made it's way back home.

I don't think the car had ever been outside of the Swansea area only having 2 previous owners (the last one for 14 years) and must have been garaged for the majority of it's life. I'm not planning to do anything major to it, just keep it as original as possible, maybe a set of G40 13's if they come up for sale at the right price. I guess it's also the ideal base if I ever planned on anything like an engine conversion.

One thing I cant get over is the fuel consumption. Close to 50mpg makes a hell of a difference coming from 20-25mpg in the Alfa. A few things need fixing. The reverse light which I'm guessing is the switch on the gearbox, the rear demister, the driver air vent that points the wrong way and the rattling sound that seems to be coming from driver side brakes, although look fine when I checked.

This has been an awesome car. Great on fuel (£15 from Cardiff to Edition38) and so cheap on insurance/tax compared to my old car.

Although missing having a G40 already.

Got GT/Genesis steering wheel fitted now, makes so much difference.

Anyway, anyone reading this who has a G40 and wants to px/trade down for this car let me know and you never know. Would also consider swapping for a mk3 saloon

It has done 80k but you'd never think to look at it. I'm planning on keeping it as standard as possible for the moment, although a set 13 or 14" RA's is tempting. I dont really want to spend much on it as the idea is that I have a cheap car to run while I sort a few things out.

Shouldnt really quote myself but I guess I could see this coming.

Now I've managed to get back to having one car again this polo is going to be making way very shortly for an old friend. :-D
