i gave it a bit of stick off the lights in the wet went for second. massive massive crunch. came to next junction wouldnt select 2nd or 1st. dads pretty clued up and has checked linkage etc and we are pretty sure its the box. wont get 2nd or 1st and struggles for fourth.

Let me know if you know of any 8p or Gt boxes demo I'm in desperate need.

jay you tool

i'll keep my spuds peeled for a box. Try not to settle for a 8p though, the long ratio's will ruin the GT nippyness!

does it affect it that much?i was never aware. doh!! i cant find one anywhere near me.

You'd notice a difference yeah!

Yeah you want a GT box if you can find one but any five speed box will keep you going until you can replace it. Happened to me once with the big noise when going for second was a horrible sound. Still works fine though so yours was probably ready to die. Did you miss second or did it happen when you put it in?

Rubbish times.

slap a 4 speed in it ;) I would say i have a spare atv but i enjoy collecting them :) and it would be no good for you anyway

Well, sorted a GT AHD code box today from a friend. just got to get it out of the car.

Didnt miss second, just driving in second and as i came out there was a big crunch and next set of lights it wouldnt go in to first. the box oil level was quite low the week before. seems the previous owner never checked it at all.

Dads being very kind and fitting it for me whilst I'm away in cyprus with the girlfriend as well as new discs and pads as the brakes are quite bad.

Not a clue why a four speed would be worth fitting, youd spend just have the engine revving itself to death everywhere you went. What gains does it give Jake?

maybe second gear got scared of your gangsta lean...'yo

you dont go over 50mph so you'd be fine and you'd get there quick ;)

Thanks for the replies. the car will be staying standard for quite some time now. this is due to me being back at university.

Maybe ill get some stuff done for next summer.

On other news, new gearbox fitted. what a piece of shit. not impressed with it at all! Was all i could find though and had to get to university for enrolment. Took close to 12 hours to fit the bitch as well.

Such a ball ache changing the gearbox with the engine in situ. Even worse on my old mk2 with a Gt engine in as you lose out on even more room....albeit very minimal.

Best way is to remove everything you can from that side of the car. Saves muchos time in the long run.

Why is the gearbox shit? Is it a GT box or one from a different model?

At least the car looks nice ;)

Cars gone from bad to worse, my mirror got snapped clean off the other day. long story but I've got another in the post. anyone got a guide to fitting another?

Also the gearbox i fitted crunches in to 5th and 2nd now even though theres box oil in it. Drives quite slow even when given full throttle which is probs due to the box.

Took a chance by buying it off an already modified GT but it was the only one i could find at the time. if anyone has a GT gearbox or 8P box in the northwest get in touch asap. that or bristol or bath area.

The fact that the car it came off being modified shouldn't make a difference really. Just because it is standard doesn't mean it will be fine as plenty of people drive standard cars like retards and don't look after them. Sucks that its crunching though :-(

They pop up now and again so don't get too down. Bugger of a job but you feel like a man when you have finished.

Changing the mirror is easy peasy. Doorcard off (take your time as they break easy) undo the bolt shaped retaining thingy around the internal adjuster of the wing mirror (you'll know what i mean when you see it). Remove the mirror backing cover and screws on the inside of the car (next to quarterlight). Then carefully pull the mirror out. Refitting is the reversal of removal. You may have to cut the door condom to find the adjuster part of the mirror when you feed it back through but you can just tape this back up before refitting the door card. Just take care with the flimsy doorcard when doing it :-)

Its getting the doorcard off that worries me as I've only got a scredriver to do it all as I'm at uni.

Ill PM you if i have any nightmares with it. not a clue how the doorcard comes off though.

I just see enough GT's modified with chassis legs and driveshafts nearly touching etc and prefer to go with one from a standard car. my last one was from Skayy_01 and was the best box I've ever driven with!

Pretty up for getting rid of it soon as i just dont have the patience with it or the money to maintain it.

Hi mate, doorcard can be removed with a couple of posidrive screwdrivers. Remove all the trim on the doorcard and you'll be faced with a load of screws to remove.

The doorcard is also held/wedged in place by the window seal which is self explanitary when you get to that stage.

All you have to do then is prise the doorcard away and it'll unclip from the 2 clips that hold it in place.
