OK so mirror is on even though its a faded grey. nothing a bit of back to black wont sort.

Box still playing up but drives for the time being. sourcing a new box hopefully as I'm sick of paying big bucks for GT boxes only for them to fall apart on me.

Nothings really changed as i have no funds :( I guess it will all be maintenance from now till i find a new job.

Car looks good as is so just stay on top of the maintainence side of things and it will be all peachy.

Buy another box when one turns up. Gt box though. Pointless putting a less fun box on.

Much happier with the car now i have sorted a fair few niggles out. This morning i put four new tyres on. Nothing special just a set of uni royals.

Cannot believe the difference its made to the drive of the car. Some of you may know I've had my heart set on an audi or passat TDi in the past few months. Well I've had a change of heart and the GT is staying.

I'm keeping it for one last show season as I've done one with the car standard so ill do the enxt with it modified slightly for a twist.

Plans for it include

40mm Drop

14" BBS RA's

Momo 280/300mm wheel

Custom exhaust

Trying to keep it as OEM as possible.

P.s. does anyone know of any 40mm spring and shock kits which dont give too much of a harsh ride?

With regards to the gearbox, i was being OTT.

It doesnt crunch second. its because the holes for the bracket are worn cause the prat wwho had it before never tightened the bracket to the box correctly. however i have had a fiddle with the bracket and it no longer crucnhes second. Fifth is fine also now. However i have slight gearstick movement when going on throttle.

The box has not made the car slower as i recently got chance to open it up on the motorway and it goes like stink. As I'm sure the driver of the 59 plate BMW diesel found out when he sat on my arse in the M5 slow lane trying to get me to race. Pulled up at the services afterwards and his girlfriend was laughing at him, poor git was asking a 100 questions about the engine. Couldnt believe it was a 1.3 8v.

Update time.

Failed the MOT last week on,

Both rear breaks showing little effort under braking.

Both front shocks having serious fluid leaks

Insufficient pedal travel from the brake pedal.

Found that the rear load sensor was sticking and that there was something wrong with the calipers. One side was coming on under braking but the other wouldnt until the pedal was pressed again. giving an uneven stop which threw the car to the left.

Also found that a pin or something was sticking and the rear self adjusters were so worn that they werent biting under braking. (Hence the little or no effort from the rear brakes).

All of this has been fixed with genuine VAG parts.

I decided to order a lowering kit from Jackson Tuning. PhilJ suggested the 40/40 kit would be best for me. I had minimal cash available after sorting the rest of the MOT fails out.

Upon uploading a picture of the kit in its box to facebook this morning i was greeted with all sorts of comments. Some about how the 40/40 kit isnt low enough and that the kit is crap and wont even be comfy. Even some about my driving skills also being terrible which wasnt even related to the topic the upload was about.

So in reply id like to say that i realise the kit is not incredible and wont make the car drive as well as other kits on the market. But i am a student with limited funds and this was the best of what i could afford. I was under the understanding it was my car and i can do as i thought best.

Anyway, here it is in its box this morning.

This will be fitted tonight if everything goes smoothly ready for its Re-Test tomorrow.

I also took the rear bumper and arch trims off over the weekend. I was eager to see if anything was bent underneath the rear numper after noticing a small ammount of filler under the rear light. Luckily there wasnt. :)

Heres some pictures of this.

I did however find some rust on the arches so this has been ground back and hammerited over. a coat of red paint will be added tonight and although not a perfect match it should look ok. I have to admit I'm not really too bothered because the arch trims will cover it all up anyway. I'm just happy that it wont be rusty underneath.

my dad said and did the exact same thing last weekend but with abit of threaded bar and a new rubber its suprising vw didnt add more support really

Aaah. I went to collect a GT engine from a bloke breaking a Red GT, he told me a lad from cheshire came down that weekend as he was in the area and collected it! I thought it could be you.

That bonnet is in the garage, straight as you like, I need a slam panel too but cosmetics aren't the priority right now

That little visit to Banbury was a bargain - std back box, bonnet, front door seals, indicators, stereo wiring loom, front speakers - £50!

New temporary summer job whilst I'm at home emans some big changes for the GT.

- New wheels and tyres will be first up. Going for Compomotive CX's the same as a red G40 has on here but a different colour.

- Will also be getting a new headunit that i have put cash aside for which lights up green and is the same colour as the dash. (Makes all the difference in my opinion).

- Also have money aside for a new exhaust. Going to get a manifold back system made by JP Exhausts in my hometown.

Will get some updated pictures after the 20th when I'm back home from my exams.

Hi Cardigan man

Quick update to show some cat and fiddle photos. went up there for a drive after cleaning it the other day. Should show how it looks now its lowered.

Other updates are new battery fitted as the last one was from a citroen and giving a poor reading. I've also aqquired a new loom for the bay due to the current one being butchered by somebody in its previous ownership. Going to wrap it up in new tape sometime soon and fit it.

The car is also booked in to have a new exhaust system fitted on July 26th so ill update when thats done. Going for a suttle look i think, (Kind of similair to Yoof's new one).

Car is looking absoultly beautiful, everytime I see it, it nealry makes me cry missing my old red GT :(

Little while no update. Apologies I've been busy with the car and university work is hectic this year.

Car now has a full Stainless exhaust system from front to back. Work done by JP Exhausts which is where Yoof had his done on his G40 Turbo.

Workmanship on the welding is immense and a very good finish overall. Not too loud and pops a treat when you let off or blip the throttle. However,

Some of you may have seen it at Tatton Park when it was on the Polo3 stand. Since then the exhaust has snapped off the car. I gave them the car at 8.15am on the day i was booked in. Got back at 4 o'clock to see an employee having a rage because he couldnt get the exhaust to sit right on the car. Waited patiently upstairs for an hour and they told me it was done. Didnt realise till id got home that they had added a rubber hanger from the rear jacking point and then sat in it was a connecting piece of metal which they then welded to the side of the backbox. Wasnt happy with it but thought it would do for Tatton.

Driving back from Tatton and i hear a huge bang and see 'said dodgy hanger' flying off down the road behind me. Immediatley pulled over and checked exhaust to see that it was scraped to hell from where it had hit the road so hard and a hole in my backbox blowing lots due to the hanger ripping clean off from where it was attatched to the box. I was pissed to say the least. Unconnected the rear part of the exhaust and shoved it in the car. Drove home sounding like a jet plane. Rang JP and they made me a complete new system and apologised so all was cool. Apparently the guy who did it first time had made a few bodges recently.

Sits perfect now and is completely hidden behind the rear bumper. Extremely happy with it.

The car has also had a leak from the filler neck on the fuel tank. Upon taking the tank off i found that it was already a replacement tank. Now some may call it a bodge but I'm a student and money was tight. So i have sawn the filler neck off and used a piece of fuel resistant pipe which is connected to the filler cap and a small piece of filler neck that was salvageable. Has worked perfectly fine so far and had no problems.

Also found that the breather pipe that goes under the back seats was completely rotten and so that came out and in went a new piece of fuel resistant pipe so now the tank breathes properly. Heres the mess from the previous pipe and its holder. id advise all other mk3 owners to check this. All 3 GT's I've owned have been rotten here.

All that rust has been treated, or cut out and sealed now too.

Whilst the tank was off the car has been FULLY waxoiled and undersealed underneath and I'm happy to say that apart from the rotten breather pipe under the seats, there is not one bit of rust on the whole car. Solid as it could get. Well chuffed. :) Also fitted a new wheel bearing as the passanger front side was getting a bit noisy. Quiet as anything now apart from the exhaust note. Put all new cylinders on the rear brakes as well as shoes.

Last week the car also clocked 100,000 too. Pulled in to a layby and took a photo of it too.

Overall id say the car is great now. I'm happy with how it drives and looks. I feel like this is how it should of come from the production line. Which was my overall aim from the day i bought the car. Getting the itch to sell and get something else now though. Was thinking of putting the car up for around the £1400 mark. anyone think this is reasonable?

I'd say thats a more than reasonable price Jay, be sad to see it go, can vouch for its cleanness! Sorry to hear about the exhaust falling off, I once had a custom made s/s exhaust for my MK1 Jetta from Powerflow and its been spot on, so proves if someone right is doing it, its well worth-while.

Funny you should mention about the fuel tank, my old mk2 coupe S had the same problem, rust straight through, had to get a replacement tank, its not like the MK1 Golf where you can just replace the filler neck, on the polo the neck is one with the fuel tank, so you have to change the whole thing! Wonder if there's some way of chopping up one to make it that way, so you just replace the neck and not the whole tank? i know its very tight for room up there... hmm food for thought.

Anyways, glad to see you've joined the 'over 100k' club means your dubs just been run in :p the Polo is looking awesome as always

£1400 sounds fine.... they are getting thin on the ground in good condition now.
