puzzling noise coming from my polo 9n (squeaky rubbery noise)

Featured Replies

Basically i have polo 02 plate 1.2 12v, now i bought the car knowing it needed work, and it was only 1650, after driving it for a few hours there seems to be like a squeaky rubber on rubber noise a bit like when your shoes are wet and your feet slip off the pedals. This noise is heard when the throttle is applied but also a little when the car is bouncing around (i think) I'm just wondering if this is the typical noise for when the dogbone engine mount bush needs replacing or if it is something else. Another thing is i possibly need a new wheel bearing so i dont know if that could be causing the noise. So far I've only heard this noise when its been raining but because its been raining all week i cant test it in the dry!

Overall the car is quite nice and just needs this issue addressing, the ABS light, exhaust blowing, possible wheel bearing, slight knocking sound going over bumps and then going to do a pre mot.

But for now this noise needs addressing... anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

that squeeking noise will be the console bushes in the track control arms, it's very common for them to squeek

ignore the green arrow in this pic, this is the console from a 9n (the opposite end of the point on the green arrow), i replaced void console bushes with the solid ones from a seat ibiza cupra, and they nearly always squeek when it rains...

the knocking noise going over bumps will almost certainly be the anti-roll bar drop links, or possibly the inner anti-roll bar bushes

silver 'bar' joining the damper to the anti-roll bar is the droplink

thankyou very much, so these console bushes are they easy to replace? the thing is i dont get any noise when turning or anything its literally only a brief knock when applying the throttle after changing gear, so definitely not the engine mount bush or wheel bearing?

cheers

my advice is to leave the console bushes well alone unless they are shot, it's not a DIY job to change them because you need some special vw tools to do it....

ref: knocking, in your first post you said it knocks when you go over speed bumps??

to be honest after driving it again today it doesnt seem to be the speed bumps, literally just when accelerating, I've got it booked in so theyll let me know what they find
