I was wandering is there anything major I could strip from my car to maybe make it a bit quicker or if there's anything I can do to the engine as I'm not far off of vtr now but most my mates are in the saxo crew and won't have that my car is quick.

I owned both these cars at the same time.. and my valver could just pull away from the vtr. It had k&N panel filter, custom made cat back exhuast, advanced timing through vag5051. And that was pretty much it.. the vtr just had a big cone filter and a powerflow back box

Well is isn't really.. you could strip out all the interior but then you have a car that's noisy and a pin in the arse to spend time in. Just sit in comfort knowing that your car won't fall apart around you.

And I hope you mean you have been racing at the Pod or Stratford as street racing is just silly.. mmmmkay!

easy way to beat your mate wait for his to break as I'm sure racing about it will then while he is at the roadside pull up and ask him who goes faster now biacth

other than that just tell him you dont need to go that fast because your not a dick

my mum has a citroen c4 bus i drive a polo mk3 and i can drive my car all day long its very comfy the bus however i can drive two hours tops before my back is crippled

you sure there's nothing wrong with your car? I've had a muppet or two in a vtr driving like a cock try and race me down my way and my valver pulls away fairly easy either that or their all in 1.0's sporting a vtr badge

They only made the VTR in a 1.6 8V lol?

They did a Saxo Furio which looked the same as the VTR but was a 1.4 8V and had Furio wrote on the side.

aw i haven't a clue bou saxos, not my thing, i thought they came in a 1.4vtr, obv wrong tho.lol

what are the vts's then?

1.6 16v, basically the same as a 106 GTi

so vtr is a 1.6 8v and vts is a 1.6 16v?

then the furio is what, like a sports 1.4 8v?

the vtr's are only down as being 90bhp? why wouldnt a standard valver pull away from one?

a mate of mine has a stripped out vts which hes setting up for the track, its great fun to drive though lol

vts are 130bhp standard

VTR's are pretty light, 1st gen ones were 85bhp iirc, later MK2 ones were 95bhp.

Furio is 75bhp 1.4 8V, same as VTR apart from different rear suspension, drum brakes instead of discs on the back, different interior.

I'm looking at autodata here on my comp and it says that the 97 on 1.6 16v are 120bhp and the 1.6 8v are 90bhp.

it also says the polo valvers are 100bhp and it lists the 75bhp engine codes too so its pretty acurate.

the vts's are serious quick tho, a mate of mine had one and brought it for a rip, it was fun. still wouldnt own one tho.

Because Saxos are actually made from papier mache and french bread, meaning they dont weigh much, where as 6ns weigh more than the moon itself. Its about 300kg difference iirc

ha oh you, I'm so used to driveing quality i forgot that theres car out there that fall apart.

do vtr's have dicys on the back?

makes me laugh when i see people on here banging on about how their mk4 polo is better than a citreon/pug/ford/ect because of its German build quality. For starters it wasn't vw that built up that reputation, it was bmw, merc and Audi, that made well built expensive cars while vw made affordable every day cars (cars for the people). Any one thats owned a classic vw will back me up here when i say they love rust as much as any other affordable car of the time, and just as many things will be broken on them.

Secondly any hint of build quality went out the window in the 90's, with cost cuttin exercises meaning cheaper parts and technics were used to build the cars and some cars (mk3 and 4 polos for example) were even outsourced to other companys to be built (seat in spain). This was true of a lot of other car builders at the time, including merc who almost ruined their reputation by not rustproofing their cars very well.

In my experiance VW are no better built than most cars of the same age, they just seems to be more vw owners that seem to need to feel superior to others

no, its standard fitment, but its interchangeable and not at all necessary. Some chose to not use it, but most do. Either way, the rules are that you should of had it passed on to you when buying a VW. The useage becomes more strong with your desire for the VW brand, and/or more so with the number of VWs you own :-)
