make a polo 6n valver beat a saxo vtr

Featured Replies

the vtr's are only down as being 90bhp? why wouldnt a standard valver pull away from one?

Because Saxos are actually made from papier mache and french bread, meaning they dont weigh much, where as 6ns weigh more than the moon itself. Its about 300kg difference iirc

Go do some research buddy. A Saxo VTR weighs around 950 kg. A Polo 6n 16v weighs around 1020 kg. Not quite sure where 300 kg came from?

A standard 6n 16v in good working order should be slightly quicker or about the same as a standard Mk1 (90 bhp) VTR but will struggle against a Mk2 (98 bhp) VTR. Obviously a VTS is a whole different ball game, they are pretty quick, my Mk2 16v only just reels them in and it's into double figures before I have a comfortable advantage.

By the way, even if you do manage to out-accelerate a VTR, you don't really stand much chance when it gets twisty

I've owned three valvers and not once have I struggled against a VTR.

But whats the big deal with beating one anyway?

Most of the people that drive them are chavvy 17 year olds that can't drive and just race between sets of lights. The first time they encounter a bend they will panic, lift off, suddenly learn that Saxo's are really tail happy, not know how to correct it, then crash backwards into a tree and be killed surrounded by shards of plastic that used to look like a Saxo.

If you want a sure fire way of beating a VTR...buy a VTS, they are going for around the same money as a decent 6n valver, wont rust and actually handle better than a 6n.

Or you can stick with the 6n valver, not worry whats its faster or slower than, and just be secure in the knowledge that once your mates Saxo hits the 100k miles mark most things will start going wrong as its never been looked after, but your 6n valver will keep going like the day it left the factory...and there is nothing stopping it hitting the 200k mile mark.

Not strictly true :p

Nah I'm not that much of geek dude :-p thats your field obviously

I thought 6n 1.4 16v were 1200 kg :lol: i was thinking the same numbers though so thats ok :-)

I knew that VTRs were under 1k kg, but wasnt sure exactly. Thats where 300 kg came from

My mates furio has rusted, not bad, but around the aerial hole, and on the skuttle by the wipers, also has some underbody rot but nothing major. When his hit 105k miles everything went wrong. needed both nearside wheel bearings doing, new rear bush things, gone through 3 alternators, radiator started leaking, and the rear windows leak when it rains. The car is in really good condition as well, just everything seemed to go wrong at once!

VTR's don't impress...I had a bit play with a few when i owned a 16v 6n with a "Green" air filter and i always pulled away.

Snip his break cables before racing?

nothing stopping it other than the gearbox and the fact the shell will have dissolved around the engine by then

how can you possibly say 'valvers won't rust'? every day to day 6n that i see about is suffering from rust (most quite badly), the bloke next door has an open air that the rear arches and sills are going on and will either need the whole lot cutting out or (more likely) it will end up with the rest of the 6N's in the scrap yard, the valver i broke for my engine literally had no rear passenger arch and both wings were bubbling like a leper, it had only done just over 70k!. some 6N's may of been treated well and this would show in the condition, but most are just used like any other car and it shows, badly. the same could be said for saxo's tho, i've seen some real clean ones but i've also seen some dogs also.

but saying that a 6N won't rust? honestly, who are you trying to kid?

He's talking about Saxos not rusting :p

You don't see many properly rusty Saxos unless they've been badly repaired as they are galvanised and plastic in places...

oh yeah just read it back and see what he was saying now

6Ns seem to be rustier than Saxo in most cases. 6Ns are just shit to be fair. The only thing they were good for was the 1.9D and thats purely because its so economical. Its slow to drive, interior is hideous, exterior is hideous and usually made worst by rust. I can't help but tinker with cars to try and make them look better but the only one I didn't even bother my arse with was my lasses 6N. You can polish some turds, but you cannot polish the car that is the equivalent to having beer shits.

You are so wrong lol!

Kamagrams never wrong

My advice....Get out n push

From experience, VTRs are not a problem for a 6N 16v, there's not an awful lot in it though. I do like the fact the valver has a smaller engine in this case however :-)

VTS is a different story, although tbh these days I wouldn't bother 'racing' any Saxo.

But I have to say, while gearbox issues and rust are apparently common with 6Ns, in five years of ownership of a near-thirteen year old car, mine still has neither :p
