Location of Power Steering Fluid

Featured Replies

I need to check the level of my power steering fluid on my 2005 VW Polo but I can't find where it is located. I can't find anything in the manual about it. Can anybody help?

without seeing a pic of the bay, it's going to be awkward to say but if it's anything like a golf it's going to be on the left hand side and it'll have a strange looking cap which sometimes requires a flat object to open it.

black body, green top!

I had a epic search looking for it in the TT

it might be hidden under some trim!

i know where they are on a TT.

Assuming you have bought a funnel Neil ?

Thanks for the replies, I'll go and have another look in a while, if I still can't see it I'll try and take some photos.

It's near to the bonnet catch, as stated, you need a flat object to unscrew the (green) cap. I use a big file blade.

VW power steering fluid has a shelf life on it, but I'm not sure what is supposed to happen to it once that date is passed.

I have used Automatic Transmission Fluid (A.T.F.) in the past, but prefer the proper stuff, although you probably won't need more than a teaspoonful.

I still can't see it. I have read my manual again and it says that I have electro-hydraulic power steering. Now I know nothing about cars, but as I understand it from reading around on the internet, that type of power steering still uses fluids but sometimes there isn't a user-serviceable reservoir. Instead it could be sealed away somewhere. Could that be why I am not finding anything?

Is it just possible that your car doesn't have power steering?

i know where they are on a TT.

lol, nah just remove the trim around the expansion tank and its there in your face! One screw and it comes off. About the only thing thats easy enough to do yourself
